Sarah Shawcross is running a free one-day song-writing retreat on Thursday 6th June at the Theatre Royal Wi******er from 10am - 5pm.
The theme of the day is ‘the ghosts, myths & legends of Wi******er’.

It will be an opportunity for songwriters, musicians and poets to collaborate on original songs with a shared source of inspiration.

Poetry - Prose - Creative Nonfic

Vortex is our annual anthology of original poetry and prose by Creative Writing students (any pathway) at the University of Wi******er. It publishes the very best work selected by the editorial team. This year we seek submissions on any theme in the following categories:

Poetry – 30 lines max.
Fiction (all genres - shorts, flash, longer stories, monologues) – 2000 words max.
Narrative Nonfiction – 2000 words max.
Please submit all work as a Word.doc or .docx attachment with VORTEX SUBMISSION in the subject line. Unfortunately we are unable to accept PDF submissions. Please include any relevant content warnings regarding sensitive material or potential triggers in the body of your email. Remove your name from the attachment itself but do give your work a title. Please use Times New Roman, 12pt, and single or 1.5 line spacing. Please refer to the Canvas announcements on the Programme Homepage for details of where to email your submissions.

It is perfectly fine to submit work which you intend to use for an assignment. All submissions will be anonymised by the editor upon submission before they are reviewed by the team.

The Times/Chicken House Children's Fiction Competition is now taking entries!
This prestigeous competition is open to unpublished, un-agented writers based anywhere in the world who write children's fiction.

Entries can be for readers from aged 7 to age 18 (Young Adult) and should be a finished novel.

There are two prizes:
1) A worldwide publishing contract with Chicken House with a £10,000 advance, and an offer of representation by Davinia Andrew-Lynch of Andlynt.

2) The Lime Pictures New Storyteller Award - a bespoke prize sponsored by leading TV production company Lime Pictures, awarded to the submission which shows the greatest TV development potential and chosen by Chicken House Publisher Barry Cunningham and Lime Pictures’ Tim Compton. The winner will receive a £7,500 publishing contract plus an offer of representation!

Submission Fee: £20, (£15 Concessions)
