National recognition while studying is no small achievement.

Toby, one of our Automotive Engineering students has been awarded a Launch Scholarship from the The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) (IET), selected from hundreds of applicants across the UK.

The scholarship recognises both achievement and potential, supporting students throughout their studies, including financial support that helps them continue progressing regardless of background.

Toby was selected due to his outstanding accomplishments whilst working in industry for Aston Martin, as well as the impact he hopes to make as a future engineer.

His journey is also supported by the Society Of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT), reflecting continued confidence in his development.

From Engineering Student to Government Minister 👏

We recently caught up with alumnus Jack Sargeant MS to reflect on his journey from studying Industrial Engineering at Wrexham University to serving in the Welsh Government.

Jack completed his Foundation Degree and later his Top-Up while balancing an apprenticeship in local manufacturing, combining hands-on industry experience with flexible higher education. He credits Wrexham University with helping him build the resilience, confidence and problem-solving mindset that now shapes his work as Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership.

His story is a powerful example of how accessible, career-focused study at Wrexham can open doors - and how our alumni continue to make an impact long after they leave campus.

In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re putting the spotlight on Alex, one of our inspiring, and award winning, Production Engineering Degree Apprenticeship graduates.

Reflecting on his experience as an apprentice, Alex said: “Working at Brother Industries UK while studying Engineering at Wrexham University has allowed me to work as I learn and learn as I work. This experience has provided valuable exposure to manufacturing operations and business processes through both academic study and hands-on practice.”

Alex has also been named this year’s IMechE Project Prize winner: “My final-year project, focused on improving production performance through collaborative robotics, was awarded the IMechE Project Prize. This is an experience that has given me valuable insight and motivation to continue developing in engineering and manufacturing.”

Congratulations, Alex, on this fantastic achievement 👏

With CanfodAu officially opened last week, it was time to start capturing the amazing new spaces we’ve created at Wrexham University 👀✨

A huge thank you to Joseph Lee, Senior Photography Technician from the Arts School, and Steven Dutton, our talented Graphic & Digital Designer, for giving up their time yesterday to work their magic. They spent the day photographing all the new facilities in CanfodAu – and we even took the chance to get fresh shots across the whole Faculty of Arts, Computing & Engineering.

All of this is for our brand-new Facilities Web Page, and honestly… we can’t wait to see the final photos! 📸🔥

Big things happening at Wrexham University – watch this space 👀💙

It was an absolute pleasure to represent Wrexham University at the public opening of the new Engineering Building at HFTM in Switzerland 🇨🇭

The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with students, staff, and industry partners — and we had so many great conversations with learners who are keen to continue their education at Wrexham University after completing their studies at HFTM.

It’s always inspiring to see such enthusiasm for Engineering and Computing, and to strengthen our growing partnership with HFTM as we support international pathways and collaborative opportunities.
