YSJ English Literature Society The OG York St John English Literature Soc is back!

Come join us if you’re a book fanatic, or you just fancy having a goss about all things around York, Yorkshire and beyond! York St John's English Literature Society, restarted for 2017, for single and joint honours students or just book lovers.

In lieu of our usual blind date with a book event (cancelled due to Covid restrictions) our events manager Adam Kirkbride and health and safety officer James Damenov donated the books that would be used instead! We encourage people never to throw away their old books, but to give them to friends or charity instead so they can help others 📚❤️

Hello there everyone! We hope you’ve all had a relaxing and renewing winter break! This semester may not be starting in the way that many of us had hoped, but we’re fortunate to inform you that LitSoc is still running as it has been throughout this past year. Our meeting times and format remain unchanged; 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Wednesdays on Microsoft Teams. Our first session of semester 2 is tomorrow!

This semester’s first session is also a special one: our new Health & Safety Officer, James Damenov has offered to head this session focused on protecting and managing mental health. We wish as many of you as possible are able to attend! See you there!

Hi there everyone! Our society’s charity is the York Foodbank and normally we’d be fundraising to help it out, but because of COVID-19 we haven’t been able to do things as we’d have liked this year. Instead, we decided it would be best to spread the word on how people can help out, so here are all the locations in York where you can donate food to! Stay safe, and we at LitSoc wish you all a festive season!

Hello there, everyone. 👋 We hope that you all in LitSoc are doing well as the second national lockdown commences, and that your studies have been going well despite the exceptional circumstances.

We as a committee just wanted to let you all know that over the course of this lockdown, any of you are more than welcome to contact us for reasons ranging from just needing someone to talk to, to advice regarding assignments or other uni-related questions.

We care about making your uni experience as enjoyable as can be for you during this time. If there’s anything we can do to help, please let any of us know individually, or don’t be afraid to throw a question into the group chat.

Best of wishes, the LitSoc Committee. 💖

Hello everyone! In honour of Armistice Day, tomorrow’s session is going to be based all around war literature; books that were written during wartime and as a direct response to war. We hope to see many of you there!

29/10/2020

Thank you everyone who turned up to last night’s session! Next week’s will be focused on all forms of anti-establishment literature (please note that such works need not be solely political)! If that interests you, any are welcome to join us this Wednesday at 6PM!
