IT BEGINS!



Time for you guys to decide.

With nominations now closed for the 2014 YUSU Elections, the full candidate list has been confirmed. Campaigning will begin on Monday Week 7 (17th February) and voting opens at 9am on Monday Week 8 (25th February).

Plenty of volunteering opportunities this term guys! Instead of having a 'volunteering week' our representatives thought it might be better to spread them over the course of the term.

There's all kinds going on... Even dog walking. :-)

Just a quick update on what we have been up to so far this term and what we plan to do in the next few weeks until Easter :)

Today is the launch of our 'CALL IT IN' campaign!

This campaign is a response to several issues, the foremost being that students are disproportionately common victims of crime. At the same time though, these crimes targeting students are disproportionately under-reported.

This needs to change, and so we've teamed up with some key partners including the North Yorkshire Police and the Safer York Partnership, and as a result have launched some really promising initiatives:

- Appointment booking service (if you have a problem, now you can connect with Campus Security or the Police for confidential, informal appointments)

- Property marking roadshows (register your valuables so that if they are stolen and recovered, they can be easily returned to you)

- Free safety gear and info available from YUSU reception

REFRESHERS FAIR TOMORROW!

That's right, its time for Refreshers Fair! We've got plenty going on in and around the Student Centre in James College tomorrow. Drop by from 10am-3pm to load up on freebies, check out the commercial and charity stands on offer, find out about newly-ratified societies, sports clubs, and inevitably, scoff far too much free food.

We've got stands from Endsleigh, Sinclairs Properties, IG Properties, PwC, Transdev and many more. They'll be a poster sale, delicious goodies from UGOT, and everyone's favourite, free Domino's pizza!

That means its time for your termly dose of top-notch comedians... all the more necessary if you missed out on tickets during the Freshers week show.

Lets have the Roger Kirk Centre bursting at the seams! Doors to the Lounge open from 8pm, with the acts starting at 9pm. The Lounge will be serving drinks throughout and will be open til 1am if you like your comedy served with a beverage!

Canteens open half an hour early during exam week again.

As we all know it is exam season once again and many of us are going to have to take exams throughout this week. However, there is a glimmer of good news.

Heads up University of York Students' Union and Official University of York Freshers 2013.

The University of York are on the lookout for some new student callers to get in touch with alumni and raise EVEN MORE funds for departments, societies, sports teams and all other students studenty!

Basically, there's job's available, and it's a great thing to do.
