York College York College has a £60 million building with first-class resources designed with post-16 students in mind.

This, combined with the highest standards for individual student achievement, provides an outstanding environment for teaching and learning. The College has state of the art facilities including the Alan Ayckbourn Theatre, Ashfields restaurant, Hair and Beauty salon, spa and nail bar, a 3G sports pitch and multi-use games area, engineering and construction workshops, art and design studios and a L

earning Centre on three floors equipped with the latest technology. York College is the largest provider of A Level and vocational programmes for 16 - 19 year olds in the region, offering over 40 A Level subjects and 80 vocational programmes. The College also offers a range of Higher Education courses for full and part-time study as well as many Adult Learning classes. York College has consistently maintained a high standard of achievement due to the highest quality of teaching and learning by tutors who are experts in their specialist subjects. This is underpinned by a strong pastoral and support system focussed on the individual needs of students. York College provides excellent preparation for university and this year in excess of 900 students submitted university applications. The College also offers specific support to students aiming for top universities, including an opportunity to study the Extended Project Qualification, a nationally recognised qualification worth up to 70 UCAS points. York College offers a more adult environment for students which acts as an ideal stepping stone to university or the workplace. Students learn the right skills and receive the necessary support they need to achieve their goals. This includes a first-class Xtra Curricular programme with a huge variety of activities selected to enhance and enrich the students' individual programme of study.

We have a new apprenticeship! 📈

We've partnered with Mindful Education to offer a flexible AAT apprenticeship (Accounts / Finance Assistant) to help build and upskill accounting teams.
Apprenticeship programmes are a brilliant way to recruit new team members or train existing staff, and with the range of incentives currently available, it’s the perfect time to explore how an apprentice can work for your business.

Even more excitingly, our apprenticeship is delivered through a hybrid learning approach, using Mindful Education's online learning platform, meaning flexibility for both employers and learners.

Today saw our annual Wellbeing Strategy Expo take place in the newly refurbished Student Union Lounge.

Organised by our dedicated Safeguarding & Wellbeing team, the event was a great opportunity for our new students to learn about what support is available to them both within College and in the wider community.

Student groups were able to:

• Meet the Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team and York Mind Counsellors
• Take part in interactive activities and win prizes
• Say hello to TED, our super-cute Therapy Dog
• Speak to local support organisations including York Mind, Safe and Sound Homes, Menfulness , Papyrus, Serendipity Counselling, Battle Scars, Reflect and more.

Congratulations to our education partners York Knights RLFC for an excellent 28-16 win in France at the weekend against Dragons Catalans Officiel.

The Knights are now 10th in the Super League table and wrap up their season against Bradford Bulls RLFC on Thursday night at the LNER Community Stadium.

We always miss our students over the summer holidays, so it was brilliant to see Campus buzzing with excitement as children and teenagers attended an Art Camp, organised by York-based visual arts charity New Visuality.

Over 22 days, 679 places were filled on the camp that was funded by City of York Council’s HAF (Holiday Activities & Food) programme.

One of the most popular projects was looking at how fast-food giants use colour, logos and slogans to tempt us and, then, turning the tables by promoting healthy eating options in a more appealing fashion with bold packaging and designs.

Along with art workshops, the camp's participants were treated to live music and football sessions, delivered by young people from York RI and the University of York, where the importance of eating well and staying active was discussed.

The Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Margaret Wells, also popped by one day, while lunches from Bluebird Bakery and fruit boxes from Riverford Organics helped keep everybody fully fuelled throughout the days.

We want all our new students to reach for the sky as they begin their studies at York College this week!

And, having witnessed how so many tackled today's Climbing Wall, we have lofty hopes for the future.

Not only did outstanding York College apprentice Georgina Richardson complete her Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician qualification eight months ahead of schedule, she also “broke down gender stereotypes” in the process.

Despite initially expressing outdated reservations about taking Georgina on, her employer John Ellis, of Mike Wilson Motors, now admits he would have 10 more like her on his workforce if he could!

Georgina’s talent and emergence as a role model and inspiration for other young women wanting to make their mark in the motor vehicle industry was recognised at the 2026 York College REACH Awards when, from a field of more than 7,000 students and apprentices, she was presented with the prestigious Principal’s Prize.

Still only 20, Georgina also secured her HGV licence during her apprenticeship and won races as a grasstrack motorbike competitor and sidecar passenger.
