PolyU students 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿 turned challenges into opportunities on their path to the 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗔 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱.

Managing a chapter of only six members during their final year, they faced daunting time-management hurdles and participation shortages. By adopting a 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆, they partnered with other student societies to boost engagement for site visits to aviation and luxury hospitality hubs.

Thomas’s leadership kept the team organized across time zones, while Charlotte and Christopher executed end-to-end planning for field trips in Macau and Hong Kong. With sponsorship from SHTM and guidance from Dr Neil LI, they successfully showcased their impact in Bangkok.

This journey taught them that true leadership means prioritizing the team, embracing adaptability, and turning obstacles into opportunities for innovation. 🏆✨

🌟 Ms GONG Yanni Coco, BA (Hons) Scheme in Design

Coco’s project envisions a 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝘃𝗲, 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗗’𝗔𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿, designed to preserve and celebrate the cave’s unique acoustic and morphological features. The concrete structure sits within a Geo gap formed by a collapsed sea cave, enduring for millennia while emulating the cave’s natural soundscape through its interaction with wind, water, and pebbles.

Inspired by resonating tubes and wind instruments, Coco incorporated innovative elements such as dual wind channels, “fipples” akin to a recorder’s mouthpiece, and a resonating chamber to amplify sound. The upper level remains unoccupied to ensure optimal airspeed, drawing on architectural concepts of “unoccupiable voids.”

This memorial stands as an intersection of 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, inviting reflection on the symbiosis between landscape and soundscape.
