This café feels like you’ve just been invited into someone’s cosy, chaotic home ☕🏠

Hidden on the first floor in Yau Ma Tei, MUM’S NOT HOME () feels less like a café and more like walking into someone’s colourful apartment filled with random treasures, plants, old furniture, and tiny details you keep noticing the longer you stay 🌿🎨🪴

Honestly, this is one of those places where you order a coffee and accidentally stay for a long time! The homemade cheesecakes are super popular and the drinks are just as fun (yes… some literally change colour 🍋👀). Perfect for a chill catch-up, solo café date, or when you just want somewhere that feels different from the usual coffee spots ☕💛

📅 Opening hours: Mon & Thu–Sun | 14:00–19:00 (Closed Tue–Wed)
💰 Price: Around HK$51–100 pp
📍 Location: 1/F, 302 Shanghai Street, Yau Ma Tei
🗺 How to get there: Take the MTR to Yau Ma Tei and take exit C, from there its around a 3 min walk.

Fighting for buns! 🥟🐲

One of Hong Kong’s most iconic and chaotic cultural festivals is back this weekend — the 🇭🇰✨ A centuries-old tradition blending Taoist rituals, folklore, and pure island energy, officially recognised as part of China’s intangible cultural heritage.

The festival takes over Cheung Chau every year with incense, lion dances, papier-mâché figures, and streets full of colour and crowds. It originally started as a ritual to protect the island from plague, and today it’s become one of Hong Kong’s most famous cultural events.

The Piu S*k Parade (Floating Colours Parade) will take place on 24 May 2026 at Cheung Chau, where children dressed as deities and characters appear to “float” above the crowds as they are carried through the streets 🎭✨ It’s one of the most surreal and photogenic moments of the festival.

The highlight, the legendary Bun Scrambling Competition Final, happens at midnight on 25 May 2026 (around 12:00am) 🥟🔥 Competitors climb a bun-covered tower and collect as many buns as possible, with higher buns scoring more points. It’s chaotic, intense, and absolutely iconic.

The entire festival runs across 21–25 May 2026, turning the island into a non-stop celebration of tradition, food, and competition.

📅 Date: 21–25 May 2026
⏰ Highlights: Piu S*k Parade (24 May); Bun Scrambling Final (25 May ~12am)
💰 Price: Free
📍 Location: Cheung Chau, Hong Kong
🗺 How to get there: Take ferry from Central Pier no.5, ferry ride will take you 35-55 minutes depending on if you are taking ordinary ferry or fast ferry.
