Professor Jennifer Jolly (Department of Special Education and Counselling, EdUHK) and Professor Joni Lakin (College of Education, University of Alabama) recently investigated a critical issue in gifted education: Do teacher rating scales measure innate cognitive ability, or are they simply identifying specific personality traits?
In a recent episode of the Riot IQ & Human Intelligence podcast, Professor Jolly dives into their findings, including:
✅ The Personality Trap: Why "Conscientiousness" is often mistaken for high ability?
✅ Teachers as Gatekeepers: How unconscious bias impacts the identification of gifted and talented students?

This research article, co-authored with Professor Joni Lakin, is now available via Open Access in Gifted Child Quarterly. It is essential reading for both frontline educators and the public looking to refine how we support gifted students in their learning.
