Dear colleagues,
It is beyond doubt that a great number of Hong Kong people were involved in the rally last Sunday to say NO to the proposed amendments of the extradition bill. However, the HKSAR Government still plans to go ahead with the legislative procedure in the LegCo meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow). There is now a grave concern regarding where the current situation will go.
By now all of us would have noticed that there is an appeal asking citizens to come together to let the lawmakers know the views of citizens against this proposed bill on Wednesday June 12, which is a working day for most, if not all of us. We are also aware that many responsible employers have decided to close for that day so that their employees can attend.
PUSA feels that staff members may want to voice their concerns, and we think it is feasible for staff members to apply for leave on Wednesday to show support. As far as we know, Staff Associations of other sister universities are launching similar appeals. However, it would be extremely great if PolyU SM, under this critical moment, would join the rank of other responsible employers and make special arrangement in handling all applications.
If, for whatever reasons, staff members are not able to leave their workplace, they may consider committing a symbolic act to show their concern on this issue.
Together we can make our voices heard.
