2026.04.17 | Bristol reunion in Hong Kong 🇭🇰

A wonderful evening reconnecting with Professor Oliver Quick, Associate Pro Vice Chancellor (External Engagement) and Professor of Law at the University of Bristol, alongside Dr. John McWilliams and fellow University of Bristol Hong Kong Alumni Association ExCo members Ryanne Lau and Phyllis Tsang.

Professor Quick was visiting Hong Kong as part of his Asia alumni engagement tour, with upcoming gatherings in Singapore and Malaysia. We had inspiring conversations on higher education developments in Hong Kong and the UK, the University of Bristol’s growing collaboration with HKUST, and the importance of strengthening global partnerships and alumni communities in an increasingly connected world.

It was also fun hearing Oliver reflect on his very first trip to Hong Kong over 20 years ago, staying in Mong Kok and being captivated by the city’s incredible energy and vibrant street life.

Excitingly, the University of Bristol is planning a major global alumni reunion in March 2027 to celebrate its 150th anniversary,a milestone that will surely bring Bristol alumni worldwide together in celebration.

Evenings like this are a reminder that the Bristol spirit continues to thrive across generations and across continents.

Bristol Global Gathering 2025 – Hong Kong Edition 🇭🇰💫

What a wonderful weekend reconnecting with our University of Bristol family here in Hong Kong! 🐾

As part of the Bristol Global Gathering 2025, alumni from around the world are celebrating our shared Bristol spirit — and this year, Hong Kong kicked things off in style with a guided hike around the Tai Tam Reservoir followed by a relaxed alumni dinner.

Huge thanks to our fellow alumnus and historian Bryan Seung, who led us through the Tai Tam Waterworks Trail, sharing his incredible knowledge of Hong Kong’s colonial history and wartime defence sites along the way. The scenery was stunning, the stories fascinating, and the laughter plentiful — a perfect mix of fun, learning, and friendship! 🌿📜

We then continued the evening at Yixin Restaurant in Wan Chai, enjoying great food, even better company, and inspiring conversations that reminded us just how strong and diverse our Bristol community truly is. 💬🍲

Special appreciation to the University of Bristol Alumni Office for sponsoring this initiative and keeping us all connected through the Global Gatherings — a brilliant worldwide event series hosted by alumni, for alumni, designed to bring the Bristol spirit to every city around the globe. 🌍

It’s always heartwarming to see new faces joining the alumni network and old friends reuniting — proof that no matter where we are, Bristol is never too far away. ❤️

A postcard featuring a highly-colourised image of the with a paddle steamer underneath. Hand-colouring was popular in the early 20th century and involved applying pigment (from watercolours, oils or dyes) to a black and white image. The process resulted in unique, individualised works of art that were especially popular as souvenirs 🖌🎨

🎓✨ Bristol Alumni in Hong Kong – AGM & Dinner 2025 ✨🎓

On 13 September, we gathered at Tao Li, New World Millennium Hotel, for our Annual General Meeting and Alumni Dinner. The AGM, led by Chairperson Dr. Raymond Hau-Yin Yuen, provided updates on the Association’s activities, finances, and scholarship programme.

Afterwards, more than 20 alumni and friends enjoyed a lively Chinese banquet, reconnecting with old classmates and welcoming new faces to our Bristol community in Hong Kong. We were especially delighted to be joined by Derek Choi, President of LSE Friends in Hong Kong, and KC Liu, Leader of Imperial College London Alumni in Hong Kong. Together, we shared a fruitful discussion on cutting-edge topics including the use of AI in education and emerging higher education trends in Hong Kong and the UK. 🍲💡

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating our Bristol bond—we look forward to more opportunities to connect in the year ahead! 💫
