Participating in the HSUHK Mentorship Scheme, I am so fortunate to have Simon MK Leung as my mentor!

As Simon MK Leung's mentee, I got the chance to attend webinars for HKGCC members regarding various issues happening in different industries. Through these webinars, I can gain comprehensive knowledge about current policies and what is occurring in the business world. Moreover, Mentor Simon and I will have discussions on the issues so I can have a better understanding of the incident and promote my self-reflections.

Other than that, It's always insightful to have a coffee chat with my mentor Simon MK Leung! With these chats, I have the opportunity to share about my confusion in the period. Mentor Simon always gives me thoughtful advice, from how to stand out in an interview to my future career path, I can simply ask him anything and this broadens my horizons!

I have learned so much from him and have grasped every opportunity to ask for his opinion whenever I had an issue, and he's always patient to discuss and give advice to me!

It means so much to me as a business student to get myself exposed from the mentorship, especially under the COVID-19 situation. Without Simon, I would not have the chance to explore business-related information and my future path without Simon's guidance. So many thanks to my mentor Simon!

題目： HR如何助公司達商業目標

在剛過去的一星期，我接受小薯蓉（網上人力資源平台）邀請出席一個實體講座，題目是〈How HR can help company achieving business goals〉 （人力資源部如何幫助公司達到商業目標）。對我來說，這個題目十分具挑戰性，因為我過去所參與的分享會中，很多題目我都接觸過，談產品、環保、社會企業責任、管理，但偏偏就是沒有談過人力資源這課題。

在一間公司裏，人力資源部往往相對是一個比較小的部門。以我公司為例，有超過800位同事，但人力資源部大概只佔10位。以中小企來說，他們公司可能只會有1位人力資源部的同事，所謂人微言輕，人數這麼少，在公司內的話語權亦自然相對地薄弱，部門不被重視，也可能經常被視為「丫鬟或書僮」，這種情況也是司空見慣。

一般的人力資源部有三大功能：
⁃ Compensation & Benefit (薪酬與福利)
⁃ Recruitment (招聘)
⁃ Learning & Development (培訓與發展)

不論人力資源部只有1位或10位同事，以上3種基本功能大概是一樣的。當然，如果公司裏有10位人力資源部的同事，再把他們分為3個小隊去應對以上3個功能，工作質量及其細緻度絕對會相應提高。但傳統的人力資源部普遍都會出現以下問題：
1. 人力資源部的同事只關注着出糧這項功能，在他們的思考領域中，最重要就是準時和準確地出糧給所有同事。但在現今的世代，以商業目標為本的人力資源部，這類常規和重複性的工作一早已經外判給外判服務供應商去擔當，因為這工作對公司業務發展完全起不了任何幫忙。當代的人力資源部應該擔當着和公司一起向前發展，並以達到公司目標為己任的一個部門。
2. 在人手招聘上，傳統的人力資源部只是一個傳聲筒，就是當部門主管需要招聘人手的時候，他們就會刊登招聘廣告或尋找獵頭公司幫忙。他們只會按本子辦事，把應徵者通通交給部門主管去面見，尤其是那些具專業資格和技能的應徵者，傳統的人力資源部根本沒有足夠資源培訓部門同事如何面見和挑選這類專業範疇的應徵者。至於部門經理，除了要應付日常工作，還要花大量時間去處理人手上的問題，會令他的職能、效率和產能都通通降低。
3. 傳統的人力資源部通常做得最差的可說是員工培訓及發展，他們往往會舉辦大眾化的培訓，目標只是為了交功課給老闆，其次就是用掉這財政年度的培訓預算金額。這類大眾化的課程，我上過不少，上堂的時間很高興，有吃有喝，又不用上班。但完成了一兩天的課堂後，所有東西都化為烏有，白白浪費了公司金錢和同事的工作時間。

我過去幾年改革了公司的人力資源部，首先要求人力資源部要了解公司的現有業務和未來發展方向，否則，在人手招聘和人才培訓方面根本就是無的放矢，完全沒有策略和方向地行事，只會招聘了不恰當的同事進入公司，過了幾個月之後，這些人又離開公司，就會拖慢公司的整體發展。

此外，我把舊有的招聘員工的功能，改為HR Business Partner (人力資源商業夥伴)，每一個部門都會委派一位人力資源商業夥伴給它，讓這位商業夥伴能夠一心一意去服務一個部門或幾個同類型的部門。這樣，商業夥伴就可以完全掌握部門主管對人力資源上的要求和時間表，對於制定每一年的培訓人才計劃有着方向性和商業需要的特點。對每一個部門，商業夥伴都會為他們度身訂造適合其招聘人才和培訓需要的計劃，令公司不論在兵源和質素上都有着未雨綢繆的準備。

現在，雖然人力資源部在同事的數量上依然不多，但他們的角色和重要性已經不可同日而語，話語權亦相當之高。公司要成功，必定是依靠有好的人一起工作；公司有好的人，才會做到市場的差異化，從而能穩步發展。

Thanks Formula Square for inviting us to visit their site and to experience the driving of the radio-controlled cars. The experience is so realistic and we can even drive without any driving experiences and knowledges. It is nice to meet more people and to explore more from different industries.

Also, thanks Simon for giving feedbacks and suggestions on how to prepare myself well with earning more experiences.

Thank you Dr. Tom Fong, Ms. Rebecca Chan and past mentees for telling us their expectations and experiences about this mentorship programme. Also, a lot of thanks to the mentors, John and Angela, for sharing their working experiences and answering our questions in the banking industry. Like what Ms. Rebecca Chan has said, we should “stay hungry, stay foolish - Steve Jobs” and never stop learning from others.
