HKU English Debate Society

HKU English Debate Society The HKU English Debate Society is the top university-level English debate team in Hong Kong.

Our members are keen participants of local, regional and international tournaments, including the prestigious World Universities Debating Championships, and the team has accumulated its fair share of awards and accolades to date. We have performed strongly in local, regional, and international tournaments throughout its history. This year in Hong Kong, we won two major tournaments: the JUDC champi

onship as well as the Intervarsity Debating Contest, co-organized by The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. As a collection of individuals who are as friendly as they are competitive, the team is a fast-rising force in the Asian debating circuit. Needless to say, we are one of the most diverse teams you can ever get in HKU – students from Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Malaysia, India and occasionally exchange students from Europe and Australia join the family of HKUEDS.

Thrilled to share about our incredible run at GDC 2025 — and every single team broke🙌

🏆 For our biggest highlight, Anagha & Celina were unanimously crowned Novice Champions! 🤩 Anagha also tied as Best Novice Speaker and swept Finals Best Speaker with a unanimous call.
🔥 Next up, Ray and
Arthur broke 14th in Open and powered all the way into the Semis.
💥 Justin & Justine followed closely, breaking 11th and advancing into Open Quarters.
👏 And last but not least, Amber shone on the panel, breaking as an Independent Adjudicator and judging the Schools Finals!

Huge congrats to the entire contingent for such a strong showing across the board!
