Dr. Zephyrus Tsang shares his exploration into his sexuality and identity: he started with “head shaving” when he was at a girls’ school and eventually answered “the calls of the self” in the last year of college. As he understands himself, he tries to resolve tensions among family, society and the self.

麥瑋翰早於幼稚園時就意識到自己的不同，到了中學，他主動尋找醫療協助，一步一步的成為真正的自己。男生校服、男更衣室看來只是表面的東西，但對Liam 來說，是外界對自己身分的肯定。到了大專，學校一個簡單的行政動作，就足以讓他感到自在。

Liam Mak has realised that he was different since kindergarten. He started seeking medical support in secondary school, and step by step became who he really is. Male school uniforms and male dressing rooms seem basic, but they represent recognition of Liam as a man from the society. At college, a simple administrative move made him feel free.

This video tells the story of G Sing Ching Nin, a gay clinical psychologist. He struggled between desires for a romantic relationship and realities of impossibility at secondary school. He started accepting his identity at college and embarked on a journey of self-reconciliation as his career began to take shape.

About Diversity, Equity and Social Inclusion Research Group (DESI)

The Diversity, Equity and Social Inclusion Research Group (DESI) studies how ethnic, racial, cultural, gender and sexual diversities interact with social, political and economic conditions to shape education, equity and social inclusion in societies. Our research focuses on advancing knowledge and theory about diversity in Hong Kong and East Asia and how this relates to different, international policy contexts. We work in partnership with multiple stakeholders to ensure high impact research that improves the lives of individuals, populations and communities.

All Certificates of Participation will be available for collection in person at EdUHK Tai Po campus on July 20, 2020 (Mon) and July 23, 2020 (Thurs). For participants who have provided a mailing address, we will send you the certificates by post.
