【築起穩固基石·崔德剛校友的默默守護興傳承】

建築工程師用一磚一瓦，為城市築起遮風擋雨的樓宇﹔而為人父者，則用大半生的汗水與遠見，為子女築起人生的基石。

臨近父親節，在香港理工大學(理大)這個大家庭裡，我們也有一位如父親般關心年輕一代的校友——理大基金創會會員及傑出校友崔德剛教授工程師 (Ir Prof. Tsui Tack-kong)。他待人親切，所以大家都喜歡稱他為「崔師兄」。

崔師兄是1959年理大前身「香港工業專門學院」的建築學文憑畢業生。在過去五十多年的專業生涯中，他參與超過三百項建築工程，成為香港結構及岩土工程界的中堅份子。而更令人感動的，是他對教育事業的長期支持。

🫶🏻心繫母校，飲水思源﹕

2009年適逢畢業五十周年，崔師兄發起並捐建了校園內的理大「思源牆」﹔2017年理大建校80周年時於校友薈加入特色「思源牆」。他多年來一直擔任校長高級顧問至今，憑藉專業知識與人脈網絡，為理大的各項校園建設作出貢獻。

💡啟迪後輩，樂於分享﹕

崔師兄不僅資助學弟妹的助學金，也樂於花時間與受資助學生交流經驗﹔他率先支持理大「勵學青年學者冠名計劃」，每次匯報會議都耐心聆聽、坦誠分享，並邀請業界朋友前來指導。

❤️關愛弱勢，點亮未來﹕

他對培育下一代的關懷並不局限於理大。崔師兄曾遠赴貴州偏遠地區，資助興建四所小學及工業學院圖書館，並設立獎學金，幫助基層孩子完成大學夢。

「一棟大樓的壽命可能有限，但教育帶來的改變，卻能傳承百代」

崔師兄用他大半生的專業與善行，向我們展現了何謂「傳承」——將對專業的熱忱化為對社會的責任，將溫暖的關懷注入理大學子與學者的成長路上。在他看來，這些成果離不開家人、同事以及母校的支持。

在這個向父親致敬的節日，理大基金衷心感謝崔師兄及每一位贊助人。因為他們的守護，理大的同學及教研團隊才能在穩固的基礎上，勇敢追尋自己的夢想。

Building a Solid Foundation: Alumnus Ir Prof. Tsui Tack-kong’s Silent Devotion and Legacy

While construction engineers use bricks and mortar to build structures that shield our cities from the elements, a father dedicates the sweat and foresight of a lifetime to build a solid foundation for his children’s future.

As Father's Day approaches, we look to a member of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) family who cares for the younger generation with a father’s devotion—Ir Prof. Tsui Tack-kong, a Founding Member of the PolyU Foundation and an Outstanding Alumnus. Known for his warm and approachable nature, he is affectionately called "Senior Tsui" (崔師兄) by all.

Senior Tsui graduated with a Diploma in Building from the Hong Kong Technical College, a predecessor of PolyU, in 1959. Over a distinguished professional career spanning more than 50 years, he has been involved in over 300 construction projects, establishing himself as a pillar of Hong Kong’s structural and geotechnical engineering sectors. Yet, what touches hearts most is his long-standing, unwavering support for education.

🫶🏻Heart for the Alma Mater, Rooted in Gratitude

In 2009, marking the 50th anniversary of his graduation, Senior Tsui initiated and funded the construction of the "Wall of Pride" (思源牆) on campus. Later, in 2017, to celebrate PolyU’s 80th anniversary, a feature wall of the "Wall of Pride" was also added to the Alumni Atrium. Serving as a Senior Advisor to the President for many years now, he has continuously leveraged his professional expertise and extensive network to contribute to various campus development projects.

💡Inspiring the Next Generation, Eager to Share

Beyond funding bursaries for his juniors, Senior Tsui generously gives his time to share his life experiences with the beneficiaries. He was also among the first to support the PolyU Endowed Young Scholars Scheme. During every progress meeting, he listens with patience, shares his insights with sincerity, and often invites industry peers to offer guidance to these emerging researchers.

❤️Caring for the Underprivileged, Brightening the Future

His dedication to nurturing the next generation extends far beyond the PolyU campus. Senior Tsui has travelled to remote areas in Guizhou to fund the construction of four primary schools and a technical college library, while also establishing scholarships to help children from grassroots families achieve their dreams of a university education.

"The lifespan of a building may be limited, but the transformation brought about by education can be passed down for generations."

Through a lifetime of professional excellence and philanthropy, Senior Tsui exemplifies the true meaning of "legacy"—transforming a passion for one's profession into a responsibility toward society, and pouring warm encouragement into the growth of PolyU students and scholars. In his eyes, these achievements would not have been possible without the support of his family, colleagues, and alma mater.

On this special occasion dedicated to honoring fathers, the PolyU Foundation expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Senior Tsui and every one of our donors. Thanks to their steadfast protection, PolyU students, faculties, and research teams can fearlessly pursue their dreams upon a rock-solid foundation.

【總結成果】—— 帶著感動與經驗回港
第四天，我們迎來旅程的終點。當天早上，團隊舉行了溫馨的總結與感謝儀式，為這趟別具意義的旅程畫上圓滿句號。透過回顧與分享，我們更深刻體會到，服務學習不僅是知識的實踐，更是與社區同行、與生命相連的過程。

同學們因應當地居民和學生的實際環境與需要，悉心設計服務內容，務求使每一個項目都切合當地情況，發揮真正效用。有些項目更已持續推行三年，並在每年的實踐中不斷檢視、優化和改進，真正把課堂所學轉化為回應社會需要的具體行動。

更令人感動的是，同學們與當地長者和小朋友建立了真摯而美好的互動。村民的熱情接待與真誠回應，讓大家深受鼓舞，也更加堅信這項工作的意義。許多人都表達了對服務學習項目的支持與期待，盼望這份關愛與陪伴能夠持續下去，將希望帶到更多角落。

[Summary of Success] — Bringing Home Experiences and Heartfelt Memories
On the fourth day, our journey drew to a close. That morning, the team held a reflection and appreciation ceremony, marking the conclusion of a deeply meaningful experience. Through reflection and sharing, we gained a deeper appreciation that Service-Learning is not only the application of knowledge in practice, but also a process of engaging with communities and connecting with people in meaningful ways.

In planning and delivering the service activities, the students carefully considered the actual circumstances and needs of local residents and schoolchildren, ensuring that each initiative was relevant, appropriate, and capable of making a tangible contribution to the community. Some of these projects have been sustained over the past three years, with ongoing review, refinement, and enhancement through annual implementation. In this way, classroom learning has been translated into concrete action that responds to genuine social needs.

Equally inspiring were the sincere and meaningful connections forged between the students and the local elderly residents and children. The villagers’ warm hospitality and heartfelt responses greatly encouraged the team and further reinforced their belief in the value and impact of this work. Many expressed their support for the Service-Learning initiatives and their hope that this spirit of care and companionship will continue, extending its positive impact to even more communities.

【服務現場】—— 從小學到職業中學
這是行程中最充實的一天。上午，我們到訪盤龍小學及民族職業高級中學，了解學生如何透過服務學習項目服務當地居民。最令我們感動的是，一位視光學老師分享，他當年仍是大學生時，曾親眼看見一名小學生戴上眼鏡後，因終於看清事物而露出驚訝又滿足的笑容。正是這一幕，啟發他繼續深造，並堅持以所學透過服務學習幫助他人。

此外，護理學院的同學亦向當地學生講解營養及衞生的重要性，將健康知識帶入校園。

下午，我們前往西疇縣考察時裝及紡織學院的服務學習項目。看到當地居民穿上創新設計的服裝，與長者攜手走上T台，場面溫馨感人。學生將知識與技能付諸實踐、回饋社會，令一眾理大基金成員深感欣慰。

其後，我們到訪新華國茶，品茶之餘，亦加深了對當地茶文化的了解，為充實的一天畫上圓滿句號。

[Service in Action] — Spanning Primary and Vocational Secondary Education
This was one of the most fulfilling days of the journey. In the morning, we visited Panlong Primary School and the Vocational High School to learn how students are serving local communities through Service-Learning projects. We were especially moved by an optometry teacher’s story: as a university student, he once saw a young student put on a pair of glasses and smile with surprise and joy at finally being able to see clearly. That moment inspired him to pursue further studies and remain committed to helping others through Service-Learning.

Students from the School of Nursing also taught local students about the importance of nutrition and hygiene, bringing health education into the classroom.

In the afternoon, we travelled to Xichou County to observe a Service-Learning project led by the School of Fashion and Textiles. Watching local residents walk down the runway in innovative designs, hand in hand with elderly participants, was heartwarming and memorable. It was inspiring to see students apply their knowledge and skills to give back to society.

Afterwards, we visited SunwahPu'er Tea to sample different teas and learn more about the local tea culture, bringing a meaningful day to a perfect close.

【深入邊關】—— 高鐵延伸後的服務前哨

今天，我們乘高鐵抵達普者黑，隨後轉乘專車前往麻栗坡，走進祖國邊關，也走近服務學習最真實的現場。下午，理大基金成員參觀中國歷史及文化學系的服務學習項目，親身了解學生的服務環境，感受他們在偏遠地區默默耕耘的點滴。

聆聽老師和同學們真摯動人的分享，我們深深感受到他們秉持「以生命影響生命、以生命改變生命」的信念，把關愛、希望與陪伴帶到有需要的人身邊。這份發自內心的熱誠，不僅溫暖了受服務者，也彰顯了教育最深遠的力量。正正是這種服務社會、心繫家國的精神，體現了理大培育專業人才與社會領袖的初心與使命。

[Venturing Deep into the Borderlands] — A Service Outpost Beyond the High-Speed Rail

Today, we travelled by high-speed rail to Puzhehei, before continuing by coach to Malipo, drawing closer not only to the nation’s borderlands, but also to the lived reality of service learning. In the afternoon, members of the PolyU Foundation visited the Service-Learning project of the Department of Chinese History and Culture and gained first-hand insight into the environment in which our students serve.

Through the heartfelt sharing of teachers and students, we were deeply moved by their commitment to “changing lives through lives”, bringing care, hope, and companionship to those in need. This sincere spirit of service not only touches the communities they serve, but also reflects the deeper purpose of education: to nurture empathy, responsibility, and leadership. It is this very spirit that lies at the heart of PolyU’s mission to develop professionals and leaders with compassion and purpose.

[Exploring Kunming] — Official Engagements and Connections
First stop: Kunming! Upon arrival today(13/5), the team immediately met with representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province and the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. Through these official exchanges, we gained a deeper understanding of local development needs, building a vital bridge for our upcoming Service-Learning project in Malipo. Tonight, we are preparing by Green Lake, ready to set off for Malipo tomorrow!
