Shun Hing College (formerly Block A) at Jockey Club Student Village III of the University of Hong Kong seeks to build an inclusive and vibrant model of community engagement by fostering exchanges and common experiences among our residents. Master Ying Chan, an HKU alumna, veteran journalist and director of HKU’s Journalism and Media Studies Centre, leads the College in encouraging civic participat

ion and mutual learning among students from a wide range of backgrounds. Housing both undergraduates and postgraduate students, Shun Hing College encourages residents to consider their engagement with one another, the fast-changing neighborhood of Kennedy Town, and the wider world while pursuing a balance of academics and social life. The College’s events provide regular opportunities to advance these goals, focusing on multicultural, globally oriented programming that challenges residents to think and grow as global citizens.

On April 10, 11, and 18, 9 Lung Wah Playhouse put on Perfectly Fine April’s Fool—an original, heartfelt musical written, produced, and performed entirely by students. 🎭

The show was structured as three interconnected acts, following a character named Rosie Pie on a really moving journey through self-discovery and healing. It was amazing to see how much work the cast and crew put into this behind the scenes over the last few months. From the acting and choreography to the live music, lighting, and custom sets, every single detail came together perfectly to create something special for the audience.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out to support us, and an even bigger shoutout to the incredible cast, crew, and musicians who made it all happen!

On the 1st of May, 2026, Shun Hing College held its 62nd High Table Dinner, themed “Voyagers of Tomorrow.” For the first time in the College’s history, the event was hosted aboard Harbour Cruise Bauhinia, bringing residents together for an evening on Victoria Harbour.

A buffet-style dinner was served on board, featuring a wide range of international dishes reflecting the multicultural spirit of our College. Surrounded by panoramic views of Hong Kong‘s iconic harbour skyline, guests enjoyed a unique dining experience at sea.

The theme ”Voyagers of Tomorrow“ celebrated courage, progress, and the promise of new horizons. Like the gentle motion of the vessel beneath us, the evening was a reminder that growth is shaped by resilience, learning, and the experiences we share with one another.

In his closing remarks, College Master Professor David S. Lee reflected on the importance of direction. He noted that without a clear destination or point of reference, one can keep moving and may end up going in circles. He encouraged residents to find purpose, values, and guidance as they navigate what lies ahead.

The evening was made possible by the dedication of Maggie Xiong, Chair of the Shun Hing College Event Management Team, and the hard work of the team behind her.

Our 62nd High Table Dinner was a memorable voyage of celebration and aspiration, and we look forward to many more moments of connection and discovery ahead.

[Superpass & Farewell Party]

On April 27, 2026, Shun Hing College residents came together for the Superpass & Farewell Party to celebrate our upcoming academic milestones and to say goodbye to departing members of our community.

The evening began with Prof. David S. Lee, Master of Shun Hing College, leading the ceremonial roasted pig cutting. Afterwards, residents took part in the Superpass traditions, including “Fai Chun” calligraphy, and joined the Farewell Party to celebrate those finishing their journey at SHC.

With plenty of food and good vibes, the night was filled with laughter, encouragement, and community spirit, helping us head into exams with confidence. As we move forward, we wish all our residents strength and success.

We sincerely thank all organisers and participants who made this event possible. Here’s to making even more memories together in the coming academic year!

On March 8, the Shun Hing College Postgraduate Scholars Club hosted the PG Club Seminar 2026, providing postgraduate students with an opportunity to share their research and exchange ideas. The evening was filled with insightful presentations, stimulating discussions, and academic curiosity.

The seminar featured six presenters:

Yukai Zhou (Social Work and Social Administration, 1st-year PhD) explored how bullying involvement differs between boys and girls and how family relationships shape these patterns.

Jiahui Xu (Department of Data and Systems Engineering, 1st-year PhD) presented research on Autonomous Driving, highlighting technological developments and challenges in intelligent transportation systems.

Xingfang Qu (Linguistics, 1st-year PhD) discussed how transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM), when applied to the left inferior frontal gyrus, can enhance complex sentence processing in both native Chinese speakers and second-language learners.

Lin Li (Institute of Data Science, 2nd-year PhD) examined the fairness of artificial intelligence and foregrounded important ethical concerns in AI systems.

Xingzhi Chen (Philosophy, 2nd-year MPhil) analyzed the philosophical implications of AI deception. She raised thought-provoking questions about technology, ethics, and trust.

Shangke Yan (Dentistry, 3rd-year PhD) introduced research on nerve guidance during bone healing, shedding light on the biological signals involved in regenerative processes.

Their presentations encompassed an incredibly diverse range of topics and are testaments to the interdisciplinary strength of our community. The Q&A sessions and tea break activities, too, demonstrated our students' eagerness to engage in academic discussions. The PG Club Seminar 2026 was more than just a platform for showcasing postgraduate research— it was also a space for building connections across disciplines and fostering a vibrant academic community at Shun Hing College.

We thank all presenters, judges, and audience members for making the seminar a meaningful and inspiring event. We look forward to seeing even more exciting research shared in future PG Club activities!

[Career Night]

On March 25, residents of Jockey Club Student Village III gathered at Shun Hing College for a Career Night with two HKU alumni—David (Goldman Sachs) and Samuel (UBS)—and our College Master, Professor David S. Lee. The event provided a practical guide to beginning a career in finance.

The panel offered actionable advice: attend events and talks, use your student status to connect with professionals while it’s easiest, and treat internships and workshops as opportunities to explore career paths early. They also urged students to choose credentials carefully—certifications like the CFA can provide useful frameworks, but focus on qualifications that match your target role. Above all, develop a clear, connected story: why this industry, why this firm, why you, and aim to be memorable and trustworthy.

We appreciate the insights shared by David, Samuel, and Professor David S. Lee, and thank everyone who attended and asked thoughtful questions. Here’s to building the connections and stories that will shape our careers.
