The use of VR in healthcare offers not only an engaging approach to promoting healthy ageing but also valuable clinical applications.
Prof. Kenneth Nai Kuen FONG, Associate Head (Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer) and Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at PolyU, and his research team, in collaboration with the University of Southern Queensland, explored whether a fully immersive VR training programme could provide a meaningful new approach to fall prevention. Their work not only examines whether VR could improve fall-related outcomes, but also whether older adults would actually accept and engage with the technology.
The programme was developed as a cognitive-motor intervention for older adults at risk of falls, particularly those with mild cognitive impairment. It has delivered significant and promising results in both research and practice.
