Hong Kong Baptist University In 1983, Hong Kong Baptist College became a fully-funded public tertiary institution.

HKBU is committed to academic excellence in teaching, research and service, and to the development of the whole person in all these endeavours built upon the heritage of Christian higher education. In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong as a post-secondary college committed to the provision of whole person education. It gained university status in 199

4 and was renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Today HKBU encompasses eight Faculties/Schools offering a range of undergraduate programmes, associate degree and higher diploma programmes as well as taught postgraduate programmes and research postgraduate programmes leading to the award of master and doctoral degrees. It prides itself on its dual focus on teaching and research and encourages service to society among its staff and students. Over the years, HKBU has remained committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person, and has gained a reputation as one of Asia’s finest institutions of higher learning.

香港浸會學院是由香港浸信會聯會於1956年創辦的私立高等學府,致力提供全人教育。1983年,當時的浸會學院獲政府全面資助,成為公立專上學府,至1994年獲得正名,成為香港浸會大學(浸大)。

時至今日,浸大共設有八個學院,開辦學士、修課式和研究式的碩士與博士課程、副學士及高級文憑課程。浸大對教學和研究同樣重視,並鼓勵教職員和學生服務社會。浸大以全人教育為辦學理念,現為亞洲最優秀的高等教育學府之一。

【HKBU climbs to 216th in QS World University Rankings 2027 ⬆️】

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has risen from 244th last year to 216th in the newly released QS World University Rankings 2027. The steady upward momentum of the University’s international rankings in recent years demonstrates the recognition of the University’s commitment to improving its teaching, learning and research performance. In particular, for the indicator measuring a university’s attractiveness to International Students, HKBU is ranked 26th globally and 2nd among universities in Hong Kong. This further highlights that international students at HKBU are able to enjoy a diverse and enriching campus life and learning experience.

In recent years, HKBU continued to demonstrate robust performance in a number of similar international university rankings. Among these rankings, HKBU has risen to 40th place in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026; ascended to 69th place in the THE Impact Rankings 2025, while maintaining its second-place global standing in the United Nations’ “SDG 4: Quality Education” for two consecutive years; and ranked 52nd globally in the THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. These rankings highlight HKBU’s endeavours to consistently strengthen its transdisciplinary teaching, learning, and research capabilities in recent years, as well as its achievements in integrating creative culture, technological applications and diverse learning experiences, which have earned international recognition.

HKBU will take the ranking results released by different organisations around the world as a reference in its ongoing efforts to elevate its education and research standards. At the same time, the University will continue to nurture future-shaping talents for the global community by promoting transdisciplinary education, and further enhance students’ learning experience through HKBU’s quality education.

【浸大於「QS世界大學排名2027」升至全球第216位 ⬆️】

香港浸會大學(浸大)在最新公布的「QS世界大學排名2027」中,由去年的244位上升至216位。浸大近年的國際排名持續上升,印證大學致力提升教學與研究的表現獲得肯定。當中衡量大學對國際學生吸引力的指標,浸大位列全球第26位、在全港大學排名第二位,進一步反映國際學生在浸大能夠獲得多元化的校園生活和學習體驗。

浸大近年在多個其他同類大學排名的表現穩步向上,包括在「2026年度泰晤士高等教育亞洲大學排名」上升至第40位;於「2025年度泰晤士高等教育大學影響力排名」上升至第69位,更連續兩年在聯合國可持續發展目標的「優質教育」一項位列全球第二;及於「2026年泰晤士高等教育跨學科科學排名」中名列全球第52位。排名結果反映浸大不斷強化其跨學科教學與研究能力,結合創意文化、科技應用與多元化學習體驗,成績獲得國際肯定。

【Second cohort of “1+1+1” Scheme projects announced】

The second cohort of projects under the Guangdong and Hong Kong Universities “1+1+1” Joint Research Collaboration Scheme has been announced. A total of 21 transdisciplinary projects led by researchers from HKBU and Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) will advance research that bridges biomedicine, traditional Chinese medicine, environmental science, smart transportation, and digital media.

Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cm Dean of Graduate School at HKBU, congratulated the project teams and said the approved projects are closely aligned with the 15th Five-Year Plan’s call to build greater self-reliance in science and technology, while addressing the practical needs for scientific innovation and digital economy in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

【Pecan Foundation supports HKBU’s research and student well-being ❤️🔬】

HKBU has received a generous HK$10 million donation from Professor Justin Chiu Kwok-hung, Founder, and Mrs Rita Chiu, Chairman of Pecan Foundation Limited, in celebration of the University’s 70th anniversary.

The donation will support HKBU’s newly established Frontier Translational Medical Research Institute in advancing translational medical research, and a project led by HKBU’s School of Continuing Education to promote the mental well-being of Hong Kong tertiary students.

Dr Kennedy Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pecan Foundation for its generous support. He commended Professor Justin Chiu for his long-standing dedication, describing him as a distinguished alumnus, an exceptional industry leader and an inspiration to young people. He also remarked that the benevolence will provide vital momentum for translating medical research into practical applications, while helping address youth mental health issues for the benefit of the wider community.

Established in 2007 by Professor and Mrs Chiu as a family charitable foundation, the Pecan Foundation is dedicated to advancing educational and philanthropic initiatives. Professor Chiu is currently the Executive Director of CK Asset Holdings Limited and he has consistently given back to his alma mater through the Pecan Foundation.

The academic team from HKBU’s Department of Biology recently visited Ningbo Life Science City for an industry–academia exchange with stakeholders in Fenghua District’s life and health sector!

With the support of district and park authorities, the visit moved from strategic briefings to concrete matchmaking between HKBU’s research capabilities and industry needs. The team then shared the Department’s strengths in molecular biology and marine bioresource development, highlighting projects with near-term commercialisation potential and possible translation pathways.

The team also toured the facilities at Servicebio Biotechnology and a life & health industrial park to understand industry needs and explore future collaboration opportunities.

We look forward to translating HKBU’s research strengths into real-world applications that support the development of the life and health sector 🔬🌟!

【HKBU-led “first-in-class” anti-cancer drug development receives funding 👏🔬】

Congratulations to Professor Xavier Wong, Professor at HKBU’s School of Chinese Medicine, for securing HK$1.4 million from the Innovation and Technology Support Programme under the Innovation and Technology Fund! The funding will support the development of a first-in-class colorectal cancer drug.

The funded project, “Development of a Cholestenone-Based Drug for Dual Inhibition of EGFR and Mutant KRAS in Colorectal Cancer Treatment”, is led by Professor Wong in collaboration with Dr Pallavi Asthana, Research Assistant Professor at HKBU, and Dr Mohamad Koohi-Moghadam, Research Assistant Professor at The University of Hong Kong 🧫. The team has identified 4-cholesten-3-one (4C3), a gut-microbiota-derived metabolite of cholesterol, as a promising anti-cancer candidate that may help overcome drug resistance arising from current colorectal cancer therapies 💊.

The School fully supports the research project, which aims to benefit patients and remains committed to advancing translational medicine ⬆️.

恭喜浸大中醫藥學院教授王凱亮教授獲創新科技署「創新及科技支援計劃」撥款140萬港元!該款項將用於開發「同類首創」抗結直腸癌藥物。

王教授帶領浸大研究助理教授Pallavi Asthana博士及香港大學研究助理教授Mohamad Koohi-Moghadam博士參與「開發基於膽甾烯酮的藥物,用於雙重抑制結直腸癌治療中的EGFR與突變型KRAS」的研究項目🧫,並發現了具抗癌潛力的膽固醇腸道菌群代謝物「4-膽甾烯-3-酮」,有望突破現有治療的抗藥性問題💊。

The one-week countdown is on! The 2026 Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) kicks off on 22 June in Jakarta, Indonesia.

HKBU returns as Global Health Innovation Track Partner for the second year, hosting an upgraded One Health & Well‑being Zone and fostering insights into sustainable health and wellness through workshops and panel discussions with global experts.

Professor Li Min, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine, will share insights on ancient wisdom and modern health science alongside distinguished international speakers, including Professor Tony Zhang (RMIT University), Professor Hui Ka‑kit (University of California, Los Angeles), Dr Linda Zhong (Nanyang Technological University).

Dr Mu Jingwen, Director of Institutional Research and Strategic Planning at HKBU and an expert in higher education data and university rankings, will contribute to the GSDC main programmes. Her sessions will cover topics ranging from embedding sustainability beyond the syllabus to turning data into strategies, together with global thought leaders such as Mr Jean-Christophe Carteron (Sulitest), Mr Darren Axe (SOS International), Ms Ellen Dixon (New Zealand Global Student Forum), Mr Santosh Khatri (UNESCO Office, Jakarta), Professor Jennifer O’Brien (The University of Manchester), Professor Raghu Raman (Amrita University), and Dr Zhou Yingying (Elsevier).

【Grand opening of HKBU Qianhai Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship 🎉🤖】

The Hong Kong Baptist University Qianhai Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (the Institute), jointly established by HKBU and the Authority of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone of Shenzhen Municipality, was officially launched at the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub.

Aligning with the National 15th Five-Year Plan and the development strategy of the GBA, the Institute serves as a bridge for technology, talent and capital between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and fosters collaboration among scholars, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, enterprises and investors.

During the ceremony, Dr Sunny Chai, Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, remarked that the Institute is a testament to the productive partnership established between HKBU and its counterparts in Shenzhen, while Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said the Institute marks a new milestone in HKBU’s innovation and technology journey. HKBU signed MoUs with Shenzhen Angel FOF, Greater Bay Area Development Fund Management Limited, Shenzhen Kehua Huijian Technology Co., Ltd, and Bioching Capital to establish strategic alliances.

The ceremony was attended by more than 200 guests. The first cohort of 11 start-ups, founded by HKBU professors, alumni and students, also established exhibition booths to showcase their innovations.

【浸大前海科技創新創業研究院開幕 🎉🤖】

由浸大與深圳市前海深港現代服務業合作區管理局合作成立的「香港浸會大學前海科技創新創業研究院」(研究院)在前海深港青年夢工場正式開幕。

研究院致力對接國家「十五五」規劃與粵港澳大灣區發展策略,成為連接深港科技、人才及資本的橋樑,促進學者、研究人員、學生、企業家、企業及投資者的合作。

浸大校董會暨諮議會副主席查毅超博士致辭時指,研究院是浸大與深圳合作夥伴建立有效合作的體現。校長衞炳江教授則表示,研究院是浸大在創科道路上的新里程。浸大在典禮上分別與深圳市天使投資引導基金管理有限公司、大灣區發展基金管理股份有限公司、深圳市科華慧檢科技有限責任公司,以及深圳邦勤創業投資基金管理有限公司簽訂合作備忘錄,共同建立策略聯盟。

開幕式當日共有200多位來賓出席,首批由浸大教授、校友或學生創立的11家初創企業在場設置展位,向嘉賓展示創新成果。
