You are cordially invited to attend the hybrid seminar titled “Diversity, AI, and Higher Education” co-hosted by the Department of Sociology, Gender Studies Programme, and CLEAR on 30th May 2025. The speakers, Mr. Zhengqiang Jiang, Miss Wenmiao Wu, and Dr. King-wa Lee will explore how AI-based tools empower visually impaired students in their studies in the first part of the seminar. The second part will discuss recent research findings concerning the emerging role of AI in addressing the social barriers faced by visually impaired students in their everyday lives, enhancing our understanding of how AI can be integrated into the existing 'social model of disability.'

【大學之理念】

「大學是中國現化化的根源動力，
大學之發展方向關乎到一個國家的文明之性格。」──金耀基

本社全新再版《大學之理念》是金耀基教授整體性論述和反思大學的經典著作。新版包括上卷《大學之理念》與下卷《再思大學之道》，所論涵蓋大學的理念、歷史、社會功用等，不僅揭示和捍衛了大學的理想，也對現代大學過度重視求「真」而忽略「善」與「美」，過度強調研究與科學進而輕視教學與人文等現狀有所批判。

金耀基教授是卓有成就的社會學家，又曾擔任香港中文大學校長，他對大學的研究與思考，既是學理上的體認，又有實踐中的經驗。在書中，他提出「大學是中國現代化的根源動力」，試圖回答大學如何避免「沒有靈魂的卓越」？

新書發布會暨講座將於11月11日（星期一）香港中文大學祖堯堂舉行，金耀基教授將親臨現場分享新書，誠邀各位參加。

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Li Hang has joined our department as a new lecturer. Dr. Li is a sociologist with a rich background in studying contentious politics and various youth experiences in contemporary society.

Dr. Li earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where his research centered on political opportunity and its relation to social movement tactics. His work on movement tactics in post-1997 Hong Kong received support from the Faculty Development Scheme of the Research Grants Council. Additionally, his project on the risk perception of young drug users was funded by the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme of the HKSAR.

Over the past five years, Dr. Li has participated in various interdisciplinary projects examining crucial topics such as civic and community engagement, youth identity formation, and relapse prevention for rehabilitated young drug abusers. His extensive research and experience bring valuable insights and expertise to our department.

Dr. Li has been teaching courses on sociological theory, environmental sociology, and contentious politics for the past 10 years. We are excited to have him share his knowledge and passion for sociology with our students.
