At Faculty of Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, we strive to educate and inspire the next generation of scientific innovators and leaders, and expand the frontier of human knowledge. From time to time, we review and reflection on our organisation and efforts to ensure that we are aligned to provide the quality education and research to contribute towards a better world. We are delighted to announce that as of 1 August 2024, the 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 (𝐄𝐄𝐒) 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝, opening a new chapter in our 𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡, 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐔𝐇𝐊.
The creation of this department highlights our dedication to addressing the pressing environmental challenges of our times, and promoting sustainable practices. By integrating expertise from various disciplines, including geology and geophysics, atmospheric science, biogeochemistry, and more, we aim to foster a collaborative environment that promotes interdisciplinary research and holistic approaches to understanding and preserving our environment.

在香港中文大學理學院，我們致力培養及啟發新一代科學領袖及革新者，以及開拓人類知識的領域。我們不時檢討和反思我們的組織和努力，以確保我們能提供優質的教育和研究，為建立更美好的世界作出貢獻。我們特意為大家帶來一則喜訊：地球與環境科學系將於2024年8月1日正式成立，而學系同仁將繼續致力於推進中大四大策略研究領域之一 – 環境與永續發展 – 的研究、教育和創新，共創新紀元。
創立這個學系更是突顯出我們致力於解決當代迫切的環境議題和挑戰，並推廣永續運作的努力。透過整合不同學科的專業知識，包括地質學和地球物理學、大氣科學、生物地球化學等，學系希望營造一個利於協作的環境，促進跨學科研究和整體方法來了解和保護環境。
