Professor Sijia Yang, Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, visited the C-Centre on June 17 and delivered a talk on Persuasive AI for Public Health Messaging. He discussed how public health communication faces information abundance and declining quality and demonstrated that large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) can streamline message design. The talk highlighted how AI identifies persuasive features and generates real-world stimuli. Ultimately, he argued that AI improves research efficiency and enhances the scalability of designing and implementing public health campaigns.

🎉 [New publication alert] Prof. Hsuan-ting Chen has recently published a new research article co-authored with our Ph.D. graduate and current research students in 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 & 𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢. This article examines how generative AI bias impacts user adoption through trust, analyzing the interactions between engagement cues, information cues, and social norms.

Employing an online experiment, this study explores how awareness of AI bias could affect users’ intention to adopt generative AI. Results showed a three-way interaction effect between bias-based engagement, bias-awareness information cue priming, and social norms on AI trust, which could further affect users’ adoption intention. That is, with high social norms of AI use, if users had not been primed that AI was biased, their trust in AI decreased after experiencing AI bias on their own. However, if they had been primed that AI was biased, their own experience with AI bias did not significantly affect trust in AI.

【✈️Taught Postgraduate Study Tour to Taipei 2026🌟】

Our taught postgraduate students completed an inspiring 5-day study tour earlier in Taipei under the theme “From Heritage to Innovation: Sustainability × Creativity in Action” led by Prof. Chia Wu and Ms. Joni Ngai.

Students immersed themselves in Taipei’s rich heritage and local food culture at Ningxia Night Market, explored media innovation at BNext Media and Condé Nast Taiwan, discovered circular fashion and social impact at House of Story Wear, engaged with design policy at the Taiwan Design Research Institute, and gained insights into AI with AI Fund and 17Life.

Inspirational talks by industry leaders sparked students’ thinking about future career opportunities, the evolving role of humans in the age of AI, and how creativity and design thinking can create meaningful social and business impact.

Along the way, students took part in workshops, explored the city, and worked closely in teams. They wrapped up the tour by presenting capstone projects in which each group explored Taipei through a chosen lens, transforming their real-world experiences into meaningful insights.

得獎隊伍:f(xyz)

The Bridges
Bridging the Silence: Company Without Pressure - Strategic Proposal for The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong

We are delighted to congratulate Professor Macau Mak, Assistant Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, on receiving the Second-Place Faculty Paper Award from the Mass Communication and Society Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).

His award-winning paper, “𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯? 𝘌𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴,” offers important insights into how perceived political polarization shapes individuals’ willingness to express their political views across different national contexts.

Professor Mak’s research focuses on political communication, media effects, platform features and affordances, multiplatform social media use, and journalism.

Warmest congratulations to Professor Mak on this outstanding achievement! 🎉

This study introduces a dialogic, Islamically sensitive conceptual framework and corresponding scale for ESG communication, based on two waves of online surveys in the MENA region, where Islam is the predominant religion. It shifts from traditional one-way reporting to a dialogic and culturally sensitive approach. The findings reveal that Muslim participants shared expectations that multinationals’ ESG communication should cover environmental sustainability, align with Islamic business ethics, and involve dialogic communication. The study also identifies preferred communication sources, channels, and content formats for Muslims, highlighting differences between frequent stock traders and non-traders. The scale was validated by assessing its relationship with ESG knowledge and corporate reputation.
