her areas of growing strength include cognitive psychology, child and adolescent psychology, aging, positive psychology, health psychology, and social and cultural psychology.

Supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and neurodiversity—such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), dyslexia, ADHD, and other conditions—has become a key priority in advancing educational equity. Research in neuroscience, genetics, and pedagogy has significantly expanded our understanding of SEN, yet, turning these scientific insights into effective educational, clinical, and familial practices remains critical to building inclusive learning environments and sustainable support systems for neurodiverse learners.

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is organising the International Symposium on Students with SEN and Neurodiversity: New Directions in Research and Practice on 29-30 May 2026. Leveraging EdUHK’s expertise in SEN research and practice, this symposium serves as a global hub for interdisciplinary exchange, uniting scholars, educators, clinicians and parents to integrate theory and practice, advancing equity and inclusion in education.

On June 24, 2025, Dr. Arita Chan, Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Psychology, published an article in Ming Pao exploring practical techniques for managing stress among prospective teachers. Drawing on her collaborative work with Dr. Wang Hui from EdUHK’s Department of Special Education and Counselling, a research team from McGill University, and with the support of the WYNG Foundation, Dr. Chan developed the Promoting Educational Excellence Through Resilience To Stress programme (PEERS). This initiative aims to enhance stress management skills and support the psychological well-being of new teachers in Hong Kong.

The article shares several effective strategies from the PEERS programme, offering valuable guidance for coping with the pressures of the teaching profession.
