THE DREAMING COLLEGE
Mentor is college which teaches some people English and International Marine hotel Training. Established in 1969 the college becomes better and greater for people of Indonesia, especially those who come from Central Java or Jawa Tengah because the college situates in the capital of Central Java, it is Semarang. After having been running for more or less than 46 years, the college becomes greater and greater; and it can be known from the alumni who get more chances working on board of Cruiser Liners, such as Holland America Lines, Carnival Cruise Lines, Mediteranian Cruise Lines, Royal Carribean, Royal Cruise Lines and some others.
Some employess spread in all over cruise liners all over the world due tho their capabilities in handling their work due to their capabilities in handling their work, because they can speak English and perform their duties as well as possible and they have the international standart of performing the work on the cruiser liners. As they are lecturing in Mentor College, the institute uses English as a medium teaching, and, of course most of them must be able to speak for conveying their ideas in English as an means of communication.
Besides English used a medium of conveying their ideas, the participans of the college use French as a major subject for speaking as well because they realize those both languanges are for conveying their ideas to any people who can speak French. The languanges are very important for them to other at the time they work. Getting contact which the passangers who have the cruise all over the world; some Indonesians who perform the work on the cruise lines must be able to use French languange besides English as the main means of international communication as for having the mastery of both languanges, of course Mentor College must provide Beverage knowlegde, Beverage service, food Knowlegde, Food service and house keeping.
Those subject which concern with hotel work are very important for the student to prepare them selves for the work as dinning room waiters on board and for adding the waiters skill, they must master those foreign languanges. Both Hotel and languange canbe the priorities for them. Due the above reasons the college emphasizes the teaching programmes more on speech rather than theories, and the tenants of the college can be the workers on the board ship, either to be dinning waiter, bar waiter or cabin stewards.
For suitting the teaching programmes to needs of being employees on the cruise liners, of cource the teaching must be planned as well as possible in order they can achieves the goals of works needed. By having these things the candidates can be profesional for fullfilling the jobs luckly Mentor College can bring them to the circumistances to changes their needs to their new life of foreign people’s one. It is really for them to make themselves to the differences they have done in their daily lives in their classes, because the medium of teaching will push them to be different for being indonesians. Their feelings, behaviours, actions and deeds of being Indonesians are totaly different from that they are about to face in their new ways of life on board. Due to these demands Mentor College has been tryng to create the programes of teaching to the new environment in all circumstances.
