Recording the Future (RtF) is a long-term audiovisual project, recording everyday life in Indonesia at 8 set locations since 2003. It is creating an archive of people and (how they shape) their environment: work, housing, leisure, education, health, politics, government, infrastructure, mobility, culture, religion etc. The project is about the ordinary and the subaltern but also about agency of people. It is about using audiovisual methods for research and documentation.
Using the Recording the Future project as a starting point, this master class discusses issues like: how to use audio-visual footage for research and publications, the importance of studying daily life, how to deal with the storage of digital sources and connecting a variety of sources for historical and social science research. Students and staff are cordially invited to join and discuss their own experiences and ideas about these issues.
