Brenna was on campus meeting students and sharing details of the fantastic opportunities available through the programme.

The Washington Ireland Programme offers students the chance to spend a summer in Washington D.C., gain valuable experience through exclusive work placements, stay with a welcoming host family and get involved in inspirational community projects.

**Paid Public Law Internship Opportunity | Summer 2027**

Applications are now open for the Public Law Internship Programme 2027, offering final-year Law students an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the legal profession.

The programme aims to improve access to legal careers for students from underrepresented backgrounds, with paid placements across six public sector legal organisations, including the Office of the Attorney General, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Legal Aid Board and the Houses of the Oireachtas Service.

**What's on offer?**

• €611.75 per week (before applicable deductions)

• Two-month paid internship commencing June 2027

• Full-time, Dublin-based placements

• Valuable experience working within public sector legal organisations

**Who is eligible?**

Final-year undergraduate Law students, or students undertaking an equivalent qualification where Law is a major subject, who meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Entered higher education through an Access route, including HEAR, DARE or mature student entry.

• Currently receive or previously received a SUSI Band 1 full maintenance grant or special rate maintenance grant.

• Are registered with and currently receive supports from their institution's Disability Support Service.

Supporting documentation is required.

**Applications close at 1pm on Friday, 30 October 2026.**

**Boosting Academic Success Week | 12–16 October**

Next week, we're focusing on helping YOU make the most of your academic journey as part of TUS Connect & Engage!

There's lots happening across our campuses, with practical workshops, online sessions and opportunities to connect with the people and services here to support your studies.

TUS Library is hosting a fantastic range of training sessions, covering topics such as Harvard Referencing, Academic Integrity and Advanced Searching.

Many sessions are available online to students across all TUS campuses, while some are campus-specific.

DRIVE Project Launches at TUS Athlone

In the same week that a Circuit Court judge branded drug barons using children as foot soldiers as being “like a cancer”, in a case involving two boys and a drug-debt intimidation shooting, TUS launched the DRIVE Project on its Athlone Campus.

DRIVE (Drug Related Intimidation & Violence Engagement) is a multi-agency initiative addressing drug-related intimidation and associated violence across Ireland.

The launch was a collaboration between the Midlands Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force (MRDATF), TUS Midlands Student Counselling Service and TUS Midlands Access Office.

We were delighted to welcome guest speakers Siobhan Maher, National DRIVE Co-ordinator, Detective Inspector Diarmuid Lalor, DRIVE Lead for Laois Offaly, and Detective Sergeant Brian Kennedy, Laois Offaly Crime Functional Area, who shared their expertise and insights into tackling drug-related intimidation.

Special thanks to Frances O’Connell, TUS Vice President for Student Education and Experience, and Sarah La Cumbre, Head of TUS Student Experience, who presented the event.

Thanks also to Treasa Fox, Head of Student Counselling, and Jenny Burke, Access Officer, for their work in organising the launch.

The DRIVE Project reinforces an important message: nobody should have to face drug-related intimidation alone. Support and guidance are available.

💜 A little moment we just had to capture!

Coming out of our offices on the D Corridor this evening, we spotted this lovely group of students relaxing, chatting and making themselves right at home. Naturally, we had to stop for a photo!

You might have noticed our purple chairs dotted around campus. They’re there to provide a quiet space for students who need a little time out from the hustle and bustle of college life.

But this evening, with the D Corridor nice and quiet, those same chairs were doing something equally lovely, bringing people together! 💜

It’s moments like these that remind us that campus is about more than lectures and assignments. It’s about finding your people, having a chat and feeling at home.

And a little reminder while we’re here! Many of our Student Support Services offices are located along the D Corridor, parallel to the canteen on our Athlone Main Campus. So whether you need a little support, some advice or just want to find out what’s available, you know where to find us!

A huge congratulations to our Careers & Employability team in Athlone on a hugely successful Careers Fair! 👏

With over 150 employers in the TUS Arena, students had the chance to explore graduate jobs, placements, internships, postgraduate study, volunteering opportunities and career pathways.

And there’s plenty to celebrate, with TUS graduates ranked the most employable in Ireland for three years running! 🎓

Well done to the team behind a fantastic event, and thank you to all the employers who joined us!
