As health professionals, we now work in a challenging and rapidly changing environment that requires us to display, in addition to our technical/clinical skills, a broad range of leadership, supervisory and management skills. However most of us will have received little or no training in our professional careers for these demanding roles. Established in 2005, the RCSI Institute of Leadership

provides opportunities for health professionals to develop as leaders capable of displaying a wide range of management and supervisory skills in their clinical or administrative roles. With over 400 students registered for postgraduate degrees and an equal number taking our short development programmes, the Institute is fully integrated into the RCSI.

The RCSI Graduate School of Healthcare Management is proud to partner once again with the 30% Club Ireland on its annual Executive Education Scholarship Programme.

Through this initiative, we are offering a fully funded place on our MSc in Leadership and Innovation in Healthcare, designed to equip women in healthcare with the skills to lead with impact and drive innovation across the sector.

This scholarship supports women seeking to advance their leadership impact in health and wellbeing, helping to shape the future of healthcare delivery.

We’re delighted to invite you to the Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Research Symposium 2026, taking place on 2 March.

In collaboration with the Evidence-Based Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (EQUIPS) Research Network, the RCSI Equity Research Alliance, and ISQua. The symposium will feature stakeholder consultations on QI and patient safety research frameworks, equity-focused MSc and PhD research work, and expert-led sessions on quality and learning systems in the age of digital health.

Celebrating Women Leading Change in Healthcare

We were honoured to launch Women in Health Management: Global Revolutionaries, a groundbreaking book shining a spotlight on women’s pivotal role in healthcare leadership – from healers to policymakers, across the globe.

The event featured contributions from:

RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences hosted the Erasmus Mundus Advanced Social Work in Health (EMASWH) consortium in Dublin last month, organised in association with ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, the University of Valencia, and Robert Gordon University.

As part of the visit, the consortium held a symposium titled Building on the Past to Educate for the Future: Celebrating the Contributions of Social Workers in Healthcare Services.

The hybrid symposium opened with a keynote address from Amanda Casey, HSE Chief Social Worker, and featured speakers from across the policy, practice and academic sectors, including Nicola Byrne (Shine), Claire O’Cleary (CORU), Geraldine Farren (HSE), Andrea Ward (Cappagh Hospital and IASW), Grainne Murtagh (RCSI), Emma Daly (RCSI), Kim Murray (Crumlin Hospital), Ann Mara (MECPATHS), Professor Jorge Ferreira (ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon) and Éidín Ní Shé (RCSI).

The speakers highlighted the various levels within health services that social workers currently occupy, ranging from their work with individuals and families to policy and service leadership roles, where they collaborate with other disciplines to shape the future of health services in Ireland.

The international consortium, now titled LEAD_well, aims to design education and training solutions for social workers in healthcare to support their work across all of these levels.
