Welcome to the team Alexandra Struycken! Alexandra will be graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy from SETU Carlow this year. She will be joining us as the Sports Rehabilitation Intern. When not in the CIM Centre Alex can be found in the Barrow centre working closely with the team in the Sports office

Welcome to the team, Dr Chloe Leddy. Chloe graduated from SETU in 2025 with a PhD in sports Biomechanics. She did her undergrad in Sports Science in DCU and has joined the team with Aoife and Danni as a technician in the health science labs.

Congratulations, healthCore postgrad Aneta Kuczynska on successfully defending her thesis this morning.
The title of her thesis is “ The role of footwear in the experiences of parents and children affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Anetas Supervisors were Dr Peter Francis, Dr Sharon Kinsella and Dr Ashley Jones. Internal examiner Prof Martina Gooney and external examiner Dr Anna Murphy Viva chair was Dr Brian Jackson

A strong performance from Sofia Granjo and the Irish women’s 4x400m relay team in a highly competitive heat in Oregon.

The quartet clocked an impressive 3:40.06 to finish 7th in Heat 2, bringing their World U20 Championships campaign to a close.

It has been a hugely valuable experience on the world stage for Sofia and, without doubt, this is only the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey.

Huge congratulations and well done, Sofia. We’re incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see what comes next 👏👏🇮🇪🇮🇪

Well done Sports Rehabilitation student Adam Nolan on defending your title

The World GAA Games take place every 3 years in Ireland and this year was held at SETU Arena in Waterford in an event that spanned 5 days, from 13th-17th July, culminating in a day of Finals in Walsh Park Stadium.
This years tournament had more than 2,000 players and coaches involved in Gaelic Football, Hurling, Ladies Gaelic Football, Camogie and Handball from 113 teams from across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Asia. There were 43 teams from Europe and 29 teams from the USA.
80% of this year’s players were not born in Ireland.  
7 Athletic Therapy students from SETU volunteered their time to work in the Physio tent alongside 6 UPMC Physiotherapists and several Physiotherapy students.
The days were long and very busy but great fun with the students assessing and taping injuries, dressing wounds and massaging tired limbs. In total 1,844 athletes were treated by the team across the 5 days in what was a unique learning experience that was very much appreciated by all the players involved.
