🌞 Summer Camp – Week 2! 🌞

What a fantastic first day of Week 2 at Davitt College Summer Camp! Over 100 students travelled to Bay Sports in Athlone for a day packed with team-building activities, games, and plenty of excitement at the water park.

There were lots of laughs, great teamwork, and memories made throughout the day. And to top it all off, the sunshine eventually made an appearance! ☀️

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the trip such a success. We can’t wait for more summer adventures ahead!

Congratulations to Isabella Kearney, who competed in the Hammer Throw at the Tailteann Games in Carlow on Saturday 20th where she finished 2nd with a new personal best of 54.33m.
The Tailteann Games is a prestigious competition that brings together the very best U17 athletes from across Ireland and serves as a qualifier for the Irish Schools Team. Isabella’s outstanding performance has earned her selection for this international event, and she will now represent Ireland at the Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB) which will take place at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast in three weeks’ time.
Well done also to Benjamin Byrne Dempsey, who competed in the High Jump at his first Tailteann Games. Although he narrowly missed out on qualification for the Schools International on this occasion, competing at this level is a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to both athletes on their excellent performances and for representing their school with distinction. 👏 👏

🎵👩‍🍳 Davitt College Summer Camp 2026 – Week 1 is Underway! 👨‍🍳🎶

Our two-week Summer Camp got off to a fantastic start yesterday, and the students have already been busy exploring new skills, making friends, and having lots of fun!

In Cookery, participants rolled up their sleeves and got creative in the kitchen, preparing a delicious menu of homemade chicken goujons, spicy wedges, and a birthday cake. Along the way, they developed valuable cooking skills, learned about food preparation and kitchen safety, and enjoyed working together as a team. The results looked—and tasted—fantastic! 🌮🍰👨‍🍳

Meanwhile, in Music, students had the opportunity to explore a range of instruments, develop their musical talents, and enjoy making music together. From drums and guitars to harp and violin, there was plenty of enthusiasm, creativity, and impressive performances throughout the day. 🎸🥁🎻🎼

It’s wonderful to see such energy, confidence, and creativity on display as we begin another exciting Summer Camp.

Supporting a child’s mental health and wellbeing can feel challenging at times, especially when children are dealing with the day-to-day stresses of school, friendships and growing up.

Well done to Isabella Kearney on finishing second at the All-Ireland Schools Track & Field Championships in Tullamore on Saturday. Isabella delivered a superb performance to bring home a silver national medal in the Intermediate Hammer. What a fantastic achievement — congratulations, Bella! 👏
Well done also to Benjamin Byrne Dempsey, who competed in both the Intermediate High Jump and Long Jump. Although he just missed out on a medal this year, representing at this level is a tremendous accomplishment.
Congratulations to both of you on your outstanding performances and for representing your school so proudly. 👏🏅

We are so grateful to the Deputy Principals of Davitt College, for donating this stunning floral spray from their Leaving Cert Graduation Night 🎓 Their beautiful display was far too lovely to simply let go to waste, and they chose to share it with us so it could continue to be enjoyed. Their thoughtful gesture brings colour, comfort, and a gentle reminder of the kindness that blossoms within our community 🌺🌷🪻

Creative Schools in Action! A massive well done to our fantastic 5th year art students who engaged with the design thinking element of their curriculum and approached a court yard in the school with artistic flare. Their hard work and generosity with their time and talents have been greatly appreciated by the whole school community. A thank you also to their Art teacher Ms Joanne Hopkins and Creative Schools Coordinator, Ms Morley, for their guidance with the project. Phase 2 is to continue in September, we’re looking forward to seeing this space evolving further. A huge thanks to Albany Castlebar for their sponsorship of some of our paint supplies.
