Currently we are providing training for 240 students between all of our courses. There is a balance of both school leavers and mature participants among the students. Students are trained in the theory and practice of Agriculture and business and get an opportunity to work in a practical way on farms as part of their training. Graduates of our courses not only return to farm the land but also contribute in many sectors of the Agricultural industry, including Co-Ops, trade suppliers, Agricultural businesses.

The Agricultural Colleges GAA kicked off last week with our hurling and camogie teams heading to Dr. Morris Park, Thurles to compete in the 7’s competition.

A huge well done to Annie O’ Brien who won the free taking competition and to Liam Malone who won the Puc Fada competition.

A great start to the new academic year at Clonakilty Agricultural College as our new first-year Farm Technician Apprentices began their first block release! 🚜🌱
The week kicked off with induction, giving apprentices the opportunity to get to know one another and become familiar with their modules and the programme ahead. They then enjoyed a busy week of classes, alongside some excellent guest speakers from CowManager, DeLaval and the Department of Agriculture.
A fantastic first week of learning, meeting new people and gaining valuable insights into the agricultural industry. We wish all our apprentices the very best as they begin their apprenticeship journey! 👩‍🌾🐄📚

This week our Advanced Cert Dairy level six students got information from Áine Murray, Moorepark on the research studies based in the college farm. Grazing, pre and post paddocks were assessed, and College Farm Manager Eoin McCormack gave a run down on the fertility/ breeding and management of the dairy herd.

Mechanisation Level 6 students engaged in a comprehensive industry visit in Carlow last week, touring the facilities of machinery manufacturers@Keenan System and Future Grass Technology, and participating in in-depth fabrication discussions. Following dinner, they attended a Teagasc soil health farm walk, where they examined the impact of tillage equipment on soils. The event covered a range of topics, including soil pit assessment, VESS evaluation, biological activity analysis via the buried underwear test, and soil slump testing, led by Leslie O'Dwyer of . Additionally, Chris Eakin of Michelin presented on the effects of tyre pressure on soil compaction. Despite the lengthy agenda, the event was deemed a resounding success by all participants.
