We are sure that many of our graduates who studied with her will be saddened by news of the passing of Madeleine O'Rourke on 5 October 2026. Madeleine made an enormous contribution to the work of the Department between 1988 and her retirement in 2014, teaching Italian language and topcis as varied as Machiavelli, Goldoni and Primo Levi.

Che ti sia lieve la terra, Madeleine.
