Most AI strategies start with the wrong question.

“What can we do with AI?” comes before “What problem are we actually trying to solve?”

That’s how organisations end up applying AI to challenges rooted in broken workflows, poor orchestration or an operating model that no longer works.

In this video, Matthew Atherfold explores the decisions leaders need to make before AI can deliver real value.

Lead in AI helps leaders identify the right opportunities, build the investment case and leave with a practical strategy and roadmap for their organisation.

Global investment doesn’t automatically follow strong performance.

Irish subsidiaries are competing for future mandates, investment and influence. The operations that stand out will be those that can clearly demonstrate what they could contribute next, not only what they deliver today.

Leading with Strategic Intent for FDI Multinationals, delivered in association with IDA Ireland, helps senior leadership teams:

• Agree a clear strategic direction for their Irish operation
• Build a stronger case for its future value
• Increase their influence with global headquarters
• Turn that ambition into a practical strategic blueprint

The 10-month programme begins on 29 September.

Final places are now available for leadership teams ready to play a bigger role in shaping their organisation’s future: https://lnkd.in/dxmQHejx

Yesterday, IMI members joined us for an insightful discussion on Ireland’s changing security landscape.

Mark Mellett and Jacky Fox explored the threats facing our maritime territory, critical infrastructure and digital systems, and what greater preparedness now requires from leaders.

The message was clear: security is no longer solely a matter for government, the Defence Forces or IT teams. It’s a leadership issue for every organisation.

Thank you to Mark and Jacky for sharing their expertise so openly, and to our members for their thoughtful questions and engagement throughout the morning. The quality of the discussion in the room made it a particularly valuable session.

Episode four of No Shortcuts is now live.

In this conversation, Eva Perez explores the work involved in making an organisation function.

The discussion looks beyond management as administration or control to consider how managers create clarity and trust, distinguish people problems from process problems and turn strategy into coordinated action.

It’s the final of four reflective conversations with IMI faculty examining the capabilities organisations depend on, and why developing them takes experience, reflection and sustained practice.

Watch the conversation below and let us know what you think in the comments. What resonated most with you?

If you’re taking people out of their day to meet, the setting should help make that time count.

Away from the interruptions of the office, IMI’s Sandyford campus gives teams the space to focus, think clearly and have the conversations that are difficult to fit into an ordinary working day.

Whether you’re planning a leadership session, training day, board meeting or company-wide event, we have spaces for 4 to 350 people, supported by on-site AV, catering and free parking.

Easy to reach. Purpose-built for productive time together. Surrounded by 13 acres of green campus.

Plan your next meeting or event at IMI.

With just over two weeks to go, join AI experts Kieran Gilmurray and Matthew Atherfold for a live discussion on the AI capabilities that leaders and their people need now.

We’ll explore:

- What’s changing in AI.
- What every manager needs to understand.
- When AI fluency is enough and when deeper capability is required.
- How to identify the right next step for your organisation.

Thursday, 10 September | 12.00–1.00pm | Live online

The session includes a live Q&A. Submit your question when registering to help shape the conversation.
