Interested in strengthening your understanding and practice of Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) in Ireland?

The two-day course “Strategic Environmental Assessment in Ireland: Building Capacity and Practice” will take place on 11–12 November 2026 at the Dublin City Council Chamber, Ballymun Civic Centre, Santry, Dublin 9.

The course will cover nine key areas:

The European SEA Directive and Irish SEA regulations

SEA screening and scoping

Baseline data and the SEA framework

Assessment of likely significant and cumulative effects

Public participation and consultation

Alternatives in SEA

Offshore SEA and cumulative effects assessment

Integration with plan-making and tiering with EIA

Focused case studies demonstrating how SEA has informed plans and programmes

The programme brings together experienced practitioners and plan-makers from organisations including UCD, the EPA, government departments, local authorities, EirGrid, Fáilte Ireland, ARUP, RPS Tetra Tech, Minogue and Associates, and CAAS Environmental Services.

The course fee is €750 per person, including digital course materials, lunches and refreshments. Participants may also complete an optional practical assignment to receive a certificate of completion.

Meetings were held with senior diplomats from France, China, UK, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
