Congratulations to Jonas Nguh, PhD, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, ANEF, FAAN, a Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI, on his induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in Washington, D.C.

This prestigious recognition celebrates Jonas’s contribution to nursing and healthcare leadership.

Jonas is Past President of the Maryland Public Health Association and Chair of the State Advisory Council for Health & Wellness.

New publication explores the role of Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers

The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI, is pleased to highlight a new publication co-authored by Faculty Board member and Vice Dean, Prof. Charlotte McArdle.

Exploration of the Role of Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers — A Scoping Review examines the role of Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers (GCNMOs) in influencing strategic healthcare policy, leadership and health system improvement.

The review identifies factors that enable or hinder GCNMOs’ contributions to national and global policy and decision-making, highlighting opportunities to strengthen role clarity, leadership development, collaborative working and institutional support.

The findings emphasise the potential of GCNMOs to shape health policy, inform workforce planning and drive improvements across healthcare systems, while identifying gaps that can inform the future development of these important leadership roles.

Congratulations to Charlotte and her co-authors on this valuable contribution to nursing and midwifery research and leadership.

We were proud to host the Nursing and Midwifery European Collaborating Centres Meeting last week, bringing together colleagues from across the WHO European Region and beyond to share learning, insights and best practice from significant programmes that strengthen nursing and improve health outcomes.

The meeting also provided an important forum to discuss pressing global health challenges. It was especially timely as senior healthcare and nursing leaders from across Europe gathered in Dublin as part of Ireland's EU Presidency programme.

The Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI was pleased to host a workshop titled "People-centred Health Systems in Europe" at the Hilton Hotel, Kilmainham, Dublin yesterday.

An official Associated EU Presidency Event, the workshop brought together senior nursing and midwifery leaders and stakeholders to explore how Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers can help shape more people-centred health policies and health systems across Europe.

Through research presentations and collaborative discussion, participants explored opportunities to strengthen nursing and midwifery practice, improve outcomes for people and communities, and better align healthcare policy with leadership.

Thank you to all who contributed their expertise and perspectives to the many discussions and who continue to support collaboration and the development of strategic actions towards more people-centred health systems across Europe.

Yesterday, RCSI hosted the final conference of the ECHOES Project, an Erasmus+ funded Cooperation Partnership led by the University of Malta. The project brought together an international consortium of partners, including Tampere University of Health Science, PMF Research and the International Network for Health Workforce Education (INHWE).

As a project partner, the Faculty was delighted to contribute to this collaboration and support INHWE's 6th International Congress of Health Workforce Education and Research, held at RCSI on Wednesday. The INHWE conference focused on innovation in interprofessional education (IPE) and its role in preparing the healthcare workforce for an increasingly complex and rapidly changing care environment.

Yesterday’s final conference showcased the ECHOES platform, designed to support teaching, research and networking across health, social care and well-being. Participants explored project findings and considered the platform's potential to connect professionals, researchers and institutions internationally.

A workshop on "The Future of ECHOES: Interprofessional Education and CPD" identified priorities for developing sustainable, cross-border approaches to healthcare education and continuing professional development, while celebrating the project's achievements and impact.

Follow TEAMCARE on Facebook: Teamcare EU Project

How can we better prepare health and social care professionals to deliver personalised, person-centred care in the community?

The TEAMCARE project is working to develop a new EU curriculum that equips professionals with the interpersonal, digital and transversal skills needed to work effectively across disciplines and tailor care to individual needs.

Led internationally by the UPGRADE Centre of Excellence, in collaboration with RCSI’s Health Professions Education Centre (HPEC), the three-year Erasmus+ project brings together 12 European partners from education, healthcare, research, public authorities and European networks.

With more than €1.1 million in European Commission funding, including €213,000 awarded to RCSI, TEAMCARE is supporting the development of the future of person-centred community care.
