The ATS Committee has on the 5th of March, 2026, decided to cease activity on X (formerly Twitter). This decision reflects growing concerns about misinformation, hate speech, and other forms of harmful content on the platform, as well as recent controversies surrounding the AI tool Grok.
ATS stopped posting after our annual conference in Autumn 2025 due to the increasing presence of misogyny, racism, xenophobia, and other dehumanising content. While Twitter was once a valuable platform for sharing ideas and following developments in real time, X no longer reflects the values of our association.
Our account will close on 20 April 2026.
ATS joins a growing number of organisations stepping away from the platform, including the Teachers’ Union of Ireland, Queen’s University Belfast, University College Dublin, University College Cork, Maynooth University, University of Limerick, Teacher Union of Ireland, educationsposts.ie and a range of public and civil society organisations such as An Taisce, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, National Womens Council and Dublin City Council.
Yours
The ATS committee.
