Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture is located at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin, Ireland. It is a leading provider of training in Horticulture.

Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens, provides the perfect setting for a horticultural course where the vast resources of this great national garden and the resources at Ashtown are placed at the disposal of students. Expert staff, the plant collections, an extensive library, the research work and the benefits of a massive renewal programme over the past decade all contribute to making it a unique place to study horticulture. There is a strong tradition of training at the National Botanic Gardens dating back to 1812, when records show that students were first taken on as apprentices. Over almost two centuries the course has evolved to suit the needs of the day. Teagasc, the Agriculture and Food Development Authority, provides courses leading to awards of Certificate in Horticulture at Levels 5 and 6. There are college training facilities both at the National Botanic Gardens and Teagasc Research Centre, Ashtown, Dublin 15. The college is also involved in the delivery of a Level 7 Bachelor Degree in Horticultural Science in association with Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). By combining classwork with practical skills training, and external practical learning placements, students receive a balanced approach to the work of amenity horticulture while on the courses.

Our students recently welcomed Anne Marie from Feigherys Farm to hear the story behind her Irish beetroot juice business.

Anne Marie shared her inspiring entrepreneurial journey, showing how identifying a gap in the market and adding value to homegrown produce can create a successful niche business without the need to scale up production on a huge scale.

It was fascinating to hear about the core values behind the business and how it has grown over the past seven years, from an idea to an established, multi-award winning product. A fantastic example of innovation, diversification and making the most of what you grow! ❤️

The Sustainable Food group recently visited McCormack Family Farms , where Stephen, Philippe and JoĂŁo shared their expertise in growing spinach, kale, pak choi and snack lettuce.

The students gained valuable insights into the entire production process, from seedbed preparation and crop establishment to quality assurance and working with retailers.

They also got to see the PlantTape planting machine in action, an innovative technology that plays a key role in improving efficiency and enabling large-scale crop production on the farm.

Our level 7 Sustainable Food students went on a field trip to meet Donnacha Donnelly of Iona Farms a few weeks ago

The students got to see everything from crop establishment to harvest and the pack house. They heard about the challenges of growing commercial crops in a season where too much rain at the start was problematic to the drought issue all growers faced in 2026.

A huge thank you to Donnacha and the team in Iona who are 99 years growing in North County Dublin.
