ECE Book Launch 🗞️

We recently celebrated the publication of “Time to Think: Enacting Slow Pedagogy – What Covid-19 Taught Us About Time, Pace and Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education and Care, authored by MIE Early Childhood Education lecturers, Dr. Maja Haals Brosnan, Dr. Natasha O’Donnell and Dr. Rhona Stallard.

The evening brought together colleagues, researchers, students and members of the critical Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) community for a thought-provoking discussion on the importance of time, care and relationships in early childhood education.

Our launch commenced with an inspirational key note speech by Professor Emer Ring from Mary Immaculate College and insightful panel discussions by Prof Glenda Walsh of Stranmillis University College, Belfast and Professor Nóirín Hayes.

Drawing on longitudinal qualitative research during the Covid-19 pandemic, the publication invites us to reconsider the pace of early childhood education and the importance of creating space for presence, connection, joy, engagement with nature and meaningful interactions with children.

Congratulations to our three authors on this valuable contribution to research and practice in our early childhood education undergraduate and Masters degrees!

Happy World Teachers’ Day | Lá Idirnáisiúnta na Múinteoirí!

Today, MIE celebrates our student teachers and alumni who make a difference to classrooms and communities every day for over a century as an institute of education.

Since today also marks the first day of TFI Smarter Travel “Walktober” with MIE Sustainability Committee, our final-year B.Ed. students were recently getting outdoors during their Science Education elective, planting lamb’s lettuce, pak choi, radishes, wildflowers and tomatoes with Dr. Sandra Austin.

We recently welcomed students representing 26 nationalities to MIE for IFP Orientation, with students joining our campus community from many countries including Turkey, Mexico, Kuwait, Ukraine, Malaysia and Botswana

The Trinity International Foundation Programme is delivered here at MIE, supporting international students as they prepare to progress to undergraduate study at Trinity College Dublin.

📚 Marino Institute of Education recently had the pleasure of hosting the launch of Read Aloud with INTENT: A Framework for Purposeful and Powerful Read Alouds in Early Primary by MIE Literacy Education lecturers Dr Jen O’Sullivan PhD and Dr Clara Maria Fiorentini, PhD .

Laureate na nÓg award-winning author and illustrator chris haughton joined us for the occasion, alongside a keynote from MIE President Professor Teresa O’Doherty.
