Shakespeare in Schools Othello 2026 🎭

We are incredibly excited to begin rehearsals next week for our Shakespeare in Schools production of Othello! 🎭

The countdown is officially on… and we can’t wait to bring this powerful story to life.

Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone
➡️ 3rd – 6th November
➡️ 9th – 12th November

The show will be a Traditional Production of Othello (1.5
Hours) With a Post Show workshop (approx 45 minutes) with a chance to engage with the cast about questions on the Leaving Cert, including relationships, characters and themes ✨

Students will also receive a Workbook with information on General Vision and Viewpoint, Social Settings, Characters and Theatrical information 🎭

Together, the Gaiety School of Acting and Dublin Municipal Theatre at Smock Alley are deeply saddened by the death of Patrick Sutton.

Patrick shaped both of our organisations in profound and lasting ways. For more than thirty years, he gave so much of himself to actor training, to Irish theatre and to generations of artists. He led the Gaiety School of Acting from 1993 to 2024, and was the driving force behind the restoration and reopening of Smock Alley Theatre.

But for all the scale of what he achieved, those of us who knew Patrick will remember the person too: the conversations, the encouragement, the disagreements, the laughter, the ideas, and the fierce belief he had in theatre and in the people who make it.

Across both GSA and Smock Alley, Patrick’s presence is everywhere. We are enormously grateful for all he gave to us, and we will miss him very deeply.

Our love and thoughts are with Mo, Rebeccah, Sam, and all Patrick’s family, friends and loved ones.

Our GSA Part Time Training Suite is a dedicated space for aspiring adult actors and theatre-makers to develop their skills, without the committment of our Two Year Full Time Actor Training Course.

➡️ GSA START is the ideal beginners entry level course for people who are interested in embarking on their performance journey, but have limited experience.

Auditions for the upcoming course starting in October are on a rolling basis. On successfully auditioning, we will place you in the level of the Suite that is most suited to your skill and experience.

Once offered a place, you will work with tutors and industry professionals with decades of involvement across a wide range of performing arts. These tutors will combine their years of experience with pedagogical research and study to deliver training that is engaging and valuable to your future and creative journey.
