Cardinal Timothy Radcliffe op (Oxford, UK) and Prof Klara Csiszar (LInz, Austria) both spoke at the online launch of Being Young - Being Catholic - Being European, a project of the European Society for Catholic Theology. We had a number of Irish contributors, including Ruairi Meyler, a doctoral student here in the School.

On 27th October, four PhD researchers from our School will launch a new podcast ‘Beyond the End’ at the Long Room Hub. The podcast is produced by Irene Barbotti, Hairuo Wang, Simon Brummer, and Maicol Cortes (Trinity Centre for Biblical Studies) and will explore how beliefs about the end of the world have shaped human imagination, religious traditions, and social life.

Places are available on a short course in Early Irish History starting this Thursday!

The course 'St Patrick and Armagh: primacy, pre-eminence and pilgrimage' is offered by the Loyola Institute. The lecturer is Dr. Catherine Swift, Mary Immaculate College.

We commemorate Patrick every year as the missionary who founded the Irish church and we identify the Archbishop of Ireland as Patrick's successor and Primate of all Ireland. In this short course we examine the evidence for the development of both of these important traditions in Irish Christianity and discuss the implications for modern communities today.

Thursday evenings, 7.30- 8.30pm in Room G16, School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies.

On 7 October, Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation students were invited on board a Peace Boat which was visiting Belfast with its 1600 passengers.

The Peace Boat is a Japan-based NGO that travels the world on educational voyages to promote peace, human rights, and sustainability.

The students had a tour which included an exhibition on the Hibakusha, the survivors of the atomic bomb attacks who campaign against nuclear weapons and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024.

Academics from the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies accompanied South Korean Ministerial visitors on their recent trip to Ireland.

Mr Chung D**g-young, South Korea’s Minister of Unification, visited Derry and Belfast on 29 and 30 September 2026. The purpose of the visit was to learn from the Irish experience of peacemaking and to explain the government’s approach to peaceful coexistence with North Korea. Dr D**g Jin Kim and Dr David Mitchell accompanied the group on its engagements.

In Derry, Minister Chung met with Mark Durkan, a key architect of the Good Friday Agreement, while Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Steve Aiken, welcomed the Minister at Stormont. The delegation also toured the two cities, witnessing legacies of conflict as well as positive signs of peace and transformation.

Visits planned in Dublin, including a speech to students at Trinity’s Society for International Affairs and the School of Religion, Theology, and Peace Studies, were unfortunately cancelled when the Minister had to return home early to respond to political events in Korea.

Congratulations to Prof. David Shepherd on his Award in Research Supervision Excellence! The ceremony took place in September with the Trinity College Provost, Linda Doyle presenting the awards. David was nominated by his students for his expert and innovative academic guidance and great pastoral care for them.

All are welcome to a public lecture: “Reclaiming Human Agency in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. The speaker is Professor Paul Scherz, Our Lady of Guadalupe Professor of Theology at the University of Notre Dame and a member of the AI Research Group of the Vatican’s Centre for Digital Culture.

The event is part of the European Society for Catholic Theology, Irish Section Conference ‘Artificial and Intelligent, being human in the age of AI’.
