On 24 July 2026, the Horizon Europe GEMS Project (Gaming Ecosystem as a Multilayered Security Threat) was presented at the Council of the European Union in Brussels as part of Ireland's EU Presidency.
Dr Maja Halilovic Pastuovic, Principal Investigator at Trinity College Dublin, led the presentation. She was accompanied by Dr Neven Vukic, also of Trinity College Dublin, and Darren Martin of An Garda Síochána.
Dr Halilovic Pastuovic shared the main findings of the GEMS Project, offering insights from the project's research on online gaming spaces and their role in understanding evolving security threats in digital environments. The presentation also referenced Watchtower, an AI-assisted tool designed at Trinity College Dublin, which supports the detection and analysis of harmful content and activity across gaming platforms. The session contributed to ongoing EU-level discussions on preventing and countering violent extremism, underlining the importance of evidence-informed approaches to emerging online risks.
