🌳🪏 Best of luck to UCD graduates Joe Eustace, Jane McCorkell, Seán O’Malley, and Oisín Griffin, who will showcase their design work at Bord Bia Bloom this bank holiday weekend, Ireland’s largest gardening festival.

🫁 A Breathing Space for Fingal | Jane McCorkell

A lush forest garden featuring more than 3,300 plants and mature trees, this space highlights wellbeing, community, and the importance of accessible green spaces. Almost all construction materials used in the build of this garden are recycled or upcycled using old materials sourced from Fingal County Council’s store yard.
Designer Jane McCorkell is an award-winning landscape architect and horticultural consultant who holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from UCD.

🧘 Citroën Floating Lounge Garden | Joe Eustace
Designed as a calming space centred around comfort and relaxation, this garden creates a sense of weightlessness through planting, water, and a floating lounge concept.

Designer Joe Eustace recently completed his Landscape Architecture degree at UCD and is set to continue his studies with a master’s degree at the university.

🏘️ Pathways to Home | Seán O’Malley & Oisín Griffin

A reflective garden, sponsored by Peter McVerry Trust, which explores the journey from homelessness to secure housing, using pathways, planting, and shared spaces to represent support, resilience, and home.

Designed by UCD Landscape Architecture graduates Seán O’Malley and Oisín Griffin, the pair now work across landscape architecture, horticulture, and sustainable design.

"Well, I should start by saying that I owe my very existence to UCD! My grandparents met here back in the 1940s, and later my mum studied at Belfield too." 💡

For Paul Cuffe (BE 2009, PhD 2013), the connection to University College Dublin runs deep. Today, the UCD alumnus is an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering whose research focuses on renewable energy and the future of electricity networks.

In this interview, Paul looks back on the experiences that shaped him as a student and engineer, from long hours in the lab to his fascination with how technology, infrastructure and design shape everyday life. Through his work with UCD College of Engineering & Architecture, he also reflects on why the next generation of engineers will need curiosity, imagination and strong communication skills alongside technical expertise.
