DkIT film students and lecturers were recently part of a lucky group who got the opportunity to attend the premiere of Chasing Millions, which took place in the Omniplex cinema in Dundalk, ahead of the film release.

The Ireland-Australia co-production was filmed on location in Dublin and Dundalk, with some of the DkIT film team and past graduates involved in scouting out some of the Dundalk locations and also the film production.

DkIT’s connection with the film first began in September 2024 when producer Jane Doolan and Director Stephen Burke visited the film team in DKIT to talk about possible collaborations on the film.

DkIT lecturer Sarah Mcann also hosted the Q&A afterward the film with Jane Doolan (Producer), Stephen Burke (Director), and main actors Christopher Eccleson & Madeline Madden.

Dundalk Institute of Technology is delighted to announce a new articulation agreement with of Dublin FET College Dhulaigh, creating exciting progression opportunities for students pursuing their passion for the performing arts.

Under this agreement, eligible students who have completed the Drama programme at City of Dublin FET College Dhúlaigh and achieved the required academic standards can progress directly to Year 2 of either of the following DkIT degree programmes:

🎭 BA Musical Theatre – for students interested in combining acting, singing and dance in musical theatre performance.

🎬 BA Drama, Theatre and Film – for students interested in exploring acting, theatre practice, performance and film.

This partnership strengthens the pathway from Further Education to Higher Education, helping students build on their existing skills and progress towards a degree and future career in the creative industries.

🎬 From DkIT to broadcast TV!
DkIT Film and Television graduate James Clegg from Malahide has built an exciting career in film and television since graduating in 2022.

Most recently, James worked on the production team for Chasing Millions, the upcoming heist comedy partially filmed in Dundalk, and has also worked on Netflix’s historical drama Bloodaxe.

Alongside film, James has made his mark in broadcast, working as a Graphics Operator at Croke Park, with TG4, including an unforgettable trip to Shanghai working at a global e-sports tournament.

“It doesn't feel like work, it’s so energizing to be a part of what people are watching on TV.”

DkIT and Monaghan Institute (MI) have marked another important milestone in their partnership with the formal signing of new articulation agreements, strengthening progression opportunities for MI learners into higher education at DkIT.

The new agreements cover Creative Media, Software Development, Computing and Operations Engineering, and Games Development, reflecting both institutions’ commitment to clear and accessible progression pathways.

Eligible learners completing two-year programmes in these areas at MI may progress directly into Year 3 of linked DkIT degree programmes, including:
• BSc (Hons) Computing in Software Development
• BSc (Hons) Computing in Development and Operating Engineering
• BA (Hons) Creative Media

The partnership is already delivering tangible outcomes. This September, seven Advanced IT and Business Management graduates from MI progressed directly into Year 3 of DkIT’s Business with Management Honours Degree, while a further four Advanced Architecture and Design graduates progressed into Year 2 of Architectural Technology.

This agreement represents more than a formal partnership. It demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring further education provides a clear, recognised route into higher education, creating meaningful progression opportunities for learners across the region.

Congratulations to lecturer Joanne White from the Department of the Built Environment, who has been featured in a 3 page profile in this month's Irish Building Magazine to focus on the work she does to promote equality in the industry. Joanne is a lecturer on the Quantity Surveying programme, and founded Women in Construction Ireland.

One of the highlights of the recent Culture Night in Dundalk was the premiere of a new work for symphony orchestra, ‘Bíonn Siúlach Scéalach’, by DkIT lecturer Dr Daithí Kearney, Director of the Creative Arts Research Centre.

Performed in the beautiful surroundings of St Nicholas’ The Green Church, the Louth Chamber Orchestra was joined by members of the award-winning Ardee Concert Band and special guests, bringing together an incredible 40-piece orchestra of local musicians.

The evening featured music inspired by European traditions, Irish dance and folklore, as well as poetry by Daithí. The programme also included music from Brigid, Lady of Light, co-composed by Daithí Kearney and Dr Adèle Commins.

Less than a week to go! The DkIT Careers Fair is back next week. This fantastic event, offers students and graduates the opportunity to connect with employers from a range of industries and sectors to discuss placements, graduate roles and internships.

Taking place on Wednesday 7th October in the MPC, Faulkner Building, at DkIT Campus, the event will feature over 70 employers from a range of disciplines.
