Galway Technical Institute GTI is one of the leading colleges of Further Education in Ireland, providing QQI Level 5 & 6 courses GTI’s underlying philosophy is about learning together.

At GTI, courses are designed to be of immediate and practical use in the workplace or as a stepping stone to further study and higher qualifications. Everything our students learn will be valuable to them throughout their lives. Our Applied Learning approach is designed to enable students learn more effectively in real-life situations. Applied Learning provides our students with learning experienc

es that involve solving problems that are based on real-life situations. This involves learning the role of a sound engineer, in GTI's state of the art sound recording studio, film editor or production co-ordinator at CladdaTV. It may also involve working as a Beauty Therapist in GTI’s Poise Salon, or as a designer in GTI’s Annual Fashion Showcase. Each department has its own unique real-life, real-time production/event/project. By bringing the real world into the classroom and the classroom into the real world, Applied Learning has become the most effective and exciting way to learn the key skills required for the 21st Century. This is centred on learner activity, collaborative learning and critically, learning to learn. Facilities at GTI include recording studios, creative digital media laboratories, hairdressing and beauty salons, furniture design workshops, fashion studios plus a wide range of specialist IT facilities. Our European Links provide work placements abroad for over 100 GTI students annually. Students currently travel to France, Portugal, Spain, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Scotland and the Canary Islands. These placements are fully funded and afford students the opportunity to gain valuable work related training in institutions and enterprises throughout Europe. GTI’s mission is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of our learners by designing programmes that are innovative and of high quality, and to deliver the programmes in a learning environment that reflects the complexity and challenge of a changing world.

This is an excellent opportunity for an established barber or hairdressing professional to share their skills, knowledge and industry experience with adult learners in a practical, supportive learning environment.

✂️ We are looking for someone with:

• Significant practical experience in barbering and/or hairdressing
• Strong knowledge of modern barbering techniques, cutting and styling
• Relevant industry qualifications and/or substantial professional experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to demonstrate practical techniques and support learners of all abilities
• A passion for teaching, mentoring and developing others

🎓 Congratulations to GTI graduate, Aisling Vaughan-Witts who completed the Occupational Therapy Assistant course at GTI in 2023/2024 and has now gone on to graduate with a Master’s in Occupational Therapy from the University of Limerick. 🎉

Aisling was an outstanding student during her time at GTI, and it is wonderful to see her continuing to build such an exciting career in occupational therapy. Aisling is currently gaining valuable experience working with Enable Ireland Adult Services in Limerick while awaiting her CORU registration.

Today, we’re celebrating our canine companions and the care, compassion and expertise that goes into looking after them. 💚

At GTI, our Animal Care and Animal Science courses give students the opportunity to develop these key skills in a practical, hands-on environment. Our state of the art grooming studio is a fantastic example of applied learning in action, giving students the opportunity to develop the practical skills and confidence they need to progress to further study and future employment in the animal care industry.

Over the past five years, we’ve seen our Animal Care & Science students flourish, putting their learning into practice through our salon practical sessions, theory and Erasmus+ placements. ✂️🐶

It’s been fantastic to see so many learners grow in confidence, expertise and experience, while showing incredible care, patience and attention to detail.

This International Dog Day, we’re celebrating our canine clients and looking back on the many fantastic GTI graduates who have cared for them, learned from them and built valuable skills along the way. 💚🐾
