Galway Technical Institute GTI is one of the leading colleges of Further Education in Ireland, providing QQI Level 5 & 6 courses GTIโ€™s underlying philosophy is about learning together.

At GTI, courses are designed to be of immediate and practical use in the workplace or as a stepping stone to further study and higher qualifications. Everything our students learn will be valuable to them throughout their lives. Our Applied Learning approach is designed to enable students learn more effectively in real-life situations. Applied Learning provides our students with learning experiences that involve solving problems that are based on real-life situations. This involves learning the role of a sound engineer, in GTI's state of the art sound recording studio, film editor or production co-ordinator at CladdaTV. It may also involve working as a Beauty Therapist in GTIโ€™s Poise Salon, or as a designer in GTIโ€™s Annual Fashion Showcase. Each department has its own unique real-life, real-time production/event/project. By bringing the real world into the classroom and the classroom into the real world, Applied Learning has become the most effective and exciting way to learn the key skills required for the 21st Century. This is centred on learner activity, collaborative learning and critically, learning to learn. Facilities at GTI include recording studios, creative digital media laboratories, hairdressing and beauty salons, furniture design workshops, fashion studios plus a wide range of specialist IT facilities. Our European Links provide work placements abroad for over 100 GTI students annually. Students currently travel to France, Portugal, Spain, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Scotland and the Canary Islands. These placements are fully funded and afford students the opportunity to gain valuable work related training in institutions and enterprises throughout Europe. GTIโ€™s mission is to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of our learners by designing programmes that are innovative and of high quality, and to deliver the programmes in a learning environment that reflects the complexity and challenge of a changing world.

Students from our Social Studies, Youth Work and Special Needs Assistant courses took part in a day of team-building activities and kayaking at Petersburg Outdoor Education and Training Centre, on the shores of Lough Mask, Co. Galway.

The activities provided an opportunity to develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills, build confidence and strengthen connections with classmates in an outdoor learning environment.

A great example of learning beyond the classroom, with students putting their skills into practice while enjoying the outdoors!

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บโœจ Celebrating Erasmus+ Days 2026! โœจ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

As part of Erasmus+ Week, GTI celebrated the opportunities, experiences and connections that make Erasmus+ such a valuable part of learning and personal development at GTI! ๐ŸŒ

Today's event was a fantastic opportunity to share information with students about our current Erasmus+ projects, such as BELONGtoEU and the VRCare Erasmus+ project, as well as our international, long-term and student mobility placements. It was great to highlight the incredible learning opportunities available to students and how international experiences can broaden horizons, build confidence and develop valuable skills for the future. ๐Ÿ’™

We are also delighted to be currently hosting two students from EOS Idiomas Los Cristianos, Tenerife, welcoming them to our learning community and celebrating the value of international exchange, cultural diversity and shared learning experiences! ๐Ÿค

This yearโ€™s 10th edition of Erasmus Days celebrates the theme โ€œLearning and growing: skills for tomorrowโ€, recognising the importance of education, digital skills, intercultural understanding and international cooperation in preparing learners for an ever-changing world.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped celebrate the opportunities that Erasmus+ brings to our learning community!

Our Animal Care students have been developing their grooming skills by learning the technique of line brushing. ๐Ÿ•

Students begin by practising on vet bedding, allowing them to focus on the fundamentals of good grooming, including correct technique, appropriate pressure, safe handling of equipment and selecting the right tools for the job.

This hands-on approach helps build confidence and develop the essential skills needed to work with a variety of dog breeds and coat types. ๐Ÿฉ

Fantastic work, everyone. Keep up the great progress! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’™

This yearโ€™s theme highlights the importance of listening to people with lived experience of mental health challenges and ensuring their voices lead to meaningful change.

By listening without judgement, challenging stigma and supporting one another, we can help create a culture where everyone feels heard and supported. Remember to take care of your own mental health and reach out when you need support. ๐Ÿ’š

There is no health without mental health.
