TraVision Foundation has returned signed consent to the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of Indigenous Peoples. This allows our submission to be considered for further action, transmitted to the Irish Government and later made public through the Human Rights Council.

We are asking for an independent examination of whether Ireland’s accommodation and assimilation policies have caused lasting physical, psychological, cultural and microbiome-related harm to Irish Travellers.

No ruling has been made, but the case can now move forward.

To our knowledge, this is the first Traveller-led submission asking United Nations Special Procedures to examine the combined cultural, physical, psychological and microbiome-related consequences of Ireland’s historic and continuing assimilation and accommodation policies.
