Massive congratulations to Abhishek Tomar who presented his research at the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) Annual Meeting 2026 in Dublin, on 'Metabolic Reprogramming Enhances Stem-Like & Functional Properties of Cancer-Derived Tumour-Infiltrating Lymphocytes' & received the prestigious ISCT Host Country Abstract Award.

His research focused on developing personalised immune therapies for lung cancer using tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), a patient’s own immune cells that can be expanded under clinical-grade conditions and used to target cancer cells. The project also explores the use of nicotinamide riboside (NR) to improve the fitness, persistence and anti-tumour function of these cells, with the long-term aim of translating this approach into clinical trials in Ireland.

This work is funded by the All-Island Cancer Research Institute (AICRI) and supervised by Dr Laura Barkley and Professor Michael Kerin.

This research study acknowledges the generosity of lung cancer patients who consent to donate their tissue and the support of the Cancer Biobank at the Lambe Institute, the Cardiothoracic Surgery and Histopathology Teams at University Hospital Galway and Industry Partner Orbsen Therapeutics Ltd. and ScaleReady.

This work was published in Cytotherapy, the official journal of the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT). https://jcyt-28-5s.elsevierdigitaledition.com/
