Hello everyone! Sophi Ant , a PhD student in NUIG is doing a research on bilingualism and is looking for participants for her online study. We at MSOC/ Malaysia Galway think this is a good study where Malaysians can participate in as most of us are bilingual. Here is a message from Sophi:

"Hi,
My name is Sophi, Iโ€™m a German PhD student at NUIG, in the school of Psychology. My research focuses on bilingualism, Iโ€™m trying to see if it has an effect on problem solving and critical thinking if a person deals with one or two languages on a daily basis. One of my language sets is Malay English, and Iโ€™m currently looking for participants to do my online study. If you have a spare hour and are up for a little challenge youโ€™d do me a huge favour by taking part! Iโ€™m looking for native Malay speakers with varying levels of English, from zero (Malay monolingual) to fully fluent in both langauges.

You can find a link to the study here
http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3391034/Malay-Chinese-English-Mixed-Assessment

or through my website
bilingualthinking.weebly.com

Please donโ€™t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! Feel free to share the study with friends and family too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks a million and all the best, Sophi"

NUI Galway will be closed tomorrow Monday 16th October due to the arrival of Storm Ophelia. In the interests of safety, staff and students are not expected to attend the University. A skeleton staff will be on campus during the morning to give advice and guidance to anyone not receiving this message. All conferring ceremonies which were scheduled for tomorrow will now take place on Saturday (21st October). As this is an ongoing weather event, the University did not wish to take the exceptional step to reschedule conferring until evening national and international forecasts were available.

The University apologises for the inconvenience caused. However the safety of students, staff and visitors to the campus is paramount. Supports will be put in place for students living in campus residences. It is anticipated that the University will resume normal business on Tuesday and any changes will be posted to the website and social channels.
