We were delighted to welcome an inspiring group of students from the USA to the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Limerick this June as part of our annual summer school programme 'NM4001 Developing self as a Healthcare Practitioner'.
Led by Module Lead Kerry McGlynn and Co-Module Lead Jennifer Byrne, the programme brought together students from a diverse range of healthcare backgrounds to engage in a dynamic and enriching learning experience.
The programme explored a Celtic spiritual dimension to healthcare, differences between the Irish and US healthcare systems, the psychosocial, cultural and spiritual elements in developing personal and professional practice. Throughout the summer school, students participated in interactive sessions including simulation designed to promote self-awareness, professional identity, and collaborative practice. Students visited Carrigoran Health and Wellness Centre, where they met with service users, staff and saw at first-hand how community care is delivered in Ireland. A special thanks to Sugitha Surentheren, Manager of Carrigoran, who facilitated and ensured this visit was interactive, enjoyable and memorable.
We extend our sincere thanks to Dr Claire O’Donnell, Lead for International Students in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Kyle Smyth, Study Abroad Team Lead, UL Global for their invaluable support in facilitating this initiative. Their contribution was key to the success of this collaborative and international learning experience.
We greatly value the opportunity to connect with international students and to support the development of globally minded healthcare practitioners. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this summer school such a positive and memorable experience.
