MIC's Professor Gwen Moore has been elected President-Elect of the International Society for Music Education (ISME), becoming the first person from Ireland to hold the distinguished international leadership position in the Society’s 73-year history.

Prof. Moore, who is the first Full Professor of Music Education in Ireland, was elected following a global poll of ISME members and was announced at ISME’s General Assembly at the 37th World Conference in Montréal.

President of MIC Prof. Dermot Nestor, President of TUS Prof. Vincent Cunnane and President of UL Prof. Shane Kilcommins are pictured with portraits of former Minister for Education, Donogh O’Malley, as part of national commemorations marking the 60th anniversary of his landmark education reforms.

The portrait, painted by Limerick artist Declan Chambers, was presented at the Regional Teaching Excellence Awards hosted by MIC earlier this summer.

The Ashling Murphy Memorial Entrance Scholarship, established in memory of MIC graduate Ashling Murphy, is a €4,000 scholarship jointly awarded by MIC and the Irish National Teachers' Organisation (INTO) to an incoming primary teaching student who has shown exceptional talent in traditional Irish music.
