The work of four recent ATU Fine Art graduates from our Sligo and Galway City, Wellpark Road campuses is on display in Dublin as part of Westerly, which officially opened at Europa Gallery this week.

Launched by ATU President Dr Orla Flynn, the exhibition features work by Callum Lewis, Cassandra O’Neill, Sarah Callaghan and Scott Nokia, spanning sculpture, photography, painting and other media.

Presented by ATU in partnership with the European Parliament Liaison Office, Westerly runs until 30 October at Europa Gallery, part of Europa Experience Dublin, 11 Chatham Street.

♻️ Over 40 students and staff from ATU came together at Lissadell Beach to take part in Ireland’s National Big Beach Clean.
The National Big Beach Clean is an annual nationwide initiative that brings communities together to remove marine litter from Ireland’s coastline, while raising awareness of the impact of litter on our marine environment.

The event was organised by ATU Sligo Green Campus in collaboration with Clean Coasts and EU GREEN Alliance, providing an opportunity for our students and staff to contribute to a national environmental initiative while taking practical action at a local level.

🎓Announcing the AbbVie Ireland – ATU STEM Excellence Scholarship 2026/2027 🎓

If you have applied through the CAO for entry to Year 1 of an eligible full-time undergraduate programme (listed below) in 2026/27 or have started the Science (Common Entry) programme or Engineering (Common Entry) programme and are progressing to Year 2 of one of the eligible programmes (listed below), you could be eligible for this scholarship.
✅Forensic Investigation and Analysis
✅Occupational Safety and Health
✅Biomedical Science
✅Pharmaceutical Science with Drug Development
✅Pharmacy
✅Mechanical Engineering
✅Robotics and Automation

Up to three scholarships worth €12,000 over 4 years are available for students entering these STEM programmes at the Sligo campus of ATU. An internship as part of the Scholarship is expected and will be organised in collaboration with ATU and AbbVie Ireland, subject to business needs.

☘️ Best of luck to James Hunt as he represents Team Ireland in Electrical Installations at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, this week.

From Virginia, Co. Cavan, James will compete in Electrical Installations, having completed Phase 4 of his electrical apprenticeship at ATU Sligo.

Congratulations to Dr Tim Hannigan, co-chair of the Writing and Literature BA at the Yeats Academy of Arts, Design and Architecture on our Sligo campus, on the publication of his new book, The Pathless Land: Finding a Way Across Ireland.

The book follows Tim’s 678-kilometre walk from the Di**le Peninsula in Kerry to Burr Point in Co Down, exploring Ireland’s landscape while reflecting on identity, belonging and questions around public access to the countryside.

From Monday, 21 September, Tubbercurry will be added to the TFI Local Link Sligo Leitrim Donegal Route 977 during ATU Sligo term time.

The service will operate Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) during term time, providing an additional public transport option for students travelling to and from ATU Sligo.

🏛️ ATU Architecture is co-hosting the free symposium, A Bringing Together: Recordings of Significance from the Northwest, taking place on Saturday, 26 September at City Hall, Sligo.

Part of the Architecture at the Edge Festival 2026, the event will explore the importance of recording architectural and cultural heritage in the Northwest, with guided architectural walking tours, expert presentations and a panel discussion.

📐 Work by students from ATU’s Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) programme will be exhibited, while ATU Lecturer in Architecture and Urban Design Deirdre Greaney will take part in the Pevsner on the Ground panel discussion.
