Have you ever wondered why appear to be covered in or silver foil?
You have seen many times in pictures of satellites, they are wrapped in precious metal. It is usually not gold, actually it is a material having multi-layer insulation. This is made up of lightweight reflective films that have some thickness. These layers are usually made of polyimide coated with very thin layer of aluminium.
This provides thermal control and protects on board instruments from extreme temperature of space.

In real gold is used in making spacesuits as it has ability to reflect infrared light while letting in visible,astronauts visor have thin layer of gold to protect their eyes from unfiltered sunlight.
