The debate will be held in three l

anguages (English, Urdu and Hindi). Each participating University is entitled to send a maximum of three teams of two speakers, one team in each language. However, the organizers reserve the right to invite individual colleges /institutes, who shall be deemed as separate institutions for award of prizes. From each of the teams, one speaker will speak for and one against the motion
Awards:-Three prizes will be awarded for each language separately. The team prizes are as follows:
1st Prize: Rs 5000
2nd Prize: Rs 3000
3rd Prize: Rs 2000
Best Speaker Prize: Rs 1000
Best Overall Team: Rs 2500

In addition to the cash awards, trophies would be conferred to the winning teams. Team prizes shall be awarded on the basis of joint performance of both the speakers of the participating team. Aligarh Muslim University’s teams will compete only for the Best Speaker Prize and not the team prize. There will be a Sir Syed Memorial Running Trophy, which shall be awarded on the cumulative performance of the institution in all the three categories. The AMU Students Union is going to organize “All India Sir Syed Memorial Debate-12” on 26-27th March 2012. A team of students has to represent Aligarh Muslim University in the debate. The trial to select the students for the “All India Sir Syed Memorial Debate-12” has been arranged on 22nd March 2012. The interested participants are requested to report at AMU Students’ Union Hall one hour prior to the scheduled time for registration.

Topic: ‘The Proposed Foreign Universities Bill Will Benefit the Indian Education System’

Rules of the Debate

1. The debate will be conducted in three languages- English, Urdu & Hindi separately.
2. The participants must be bonafide students of the participating institution, enrolled for the undergraduate or post graduate courses of study. Research scholars are not eligible for participation in the debate.
3. Each participating University is entitled to send a maximum of three teams of two speakers, one team in each language. However, the organizers reserve the right to invite individual colleges/ institutes, who shall be deemed as separate institutions for award of prizes.
4. From each of the teams, one speaker will speak for and one against the motion.
5. Three prizes will be awarded for each language separately. The team prizes are as follows:

1st prize: Rs 5000
2nd prize: Rs 3000
3rd prize: Rs 2000
Best speaker prize: Rs 1000
Best overall team: Rs 2500

12. Each participant will be given 5+1 minute to speak and 2 minute for interjection.
13. Verdict of the judges will be final. No protest or objection with regards to either the decision or the procedure will be entertained.
14. Admission to the debate will be subject to the presentation of a letter of the credentials from the head of the institution certifying the bonafide status of the participants.
15. Speaking order of the participating teams shall be decided on the basis of draw of lots.
16. The host university will arrange for the boarding and lodging of the participating teams free of charge from the morning of 25th March to the morning of 28th March. No TA/DA will be provided.
17. Female participant may be accompanied by teacher –in-charge. The in charge will be the guest of the host university and will be accorded the usual hospitalities.
18. Competitors with written debates will not be eligible for prizes. However a slip of paper bearing the points only may be permitted.
19. Registration form must be sent latest by 23rd March, 2012. They must be sent to:
