52nd Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function of Guru Nanak Dev University on September 20

Shri Anurag Thakur, The Union Minister of I&B and Sports & Youth Affairs and S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Minister of Sports & Youth Services, Punjab will felicitate/honor GNDU players

Amritsar, 19 September, 2022 - Shri Anurag Thakur, The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Sports & Youth Affairs and S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister Department of Sports & Youth Services, Punjab will felicitate/honour the players who brought laurels to the Guru Nanak Dev University in various sports disciplines at the International, Khelo India and All India Inter-Varsity levels during its 52nd Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function on September 20, 2022 with cash awards for outstanding players and trophies to overall best performing colleges of Guru Nanak Dev University. More than 300 sportspersons (included 25 International players, position holders of Khelo India University Games, All India Inter-University Championships and Khelo India Youth Games) will be awarded with cash prizes worth more than 2.00 crore.
Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh, Incharge Department of Physical Education (A.T.), Office of Director Sports said that Shri Anurag Thakur, The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Sports & Youth Affairs will be the chief guest and S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Hon’ble Cabinet MinisterDepartment of Sports & Youth Services, Punjab will gave presidential remarks. Vice- Chancellor Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu will address the players and guests on this occasion.
Guru Nanak Dev University has made phenomenal progress in the field of sports and won India’s prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy for a record period of 23 times. It has produced 35 Arjuna Awardees, 6 Padmashrees Awardees and 2 Dronacharya Awardees. Each year, Department of Physical Education(Allied Teaching) organizes more than 90 Guru Nanak Dev University Inter-College (Men and Women) Championships and sends more than 70 Universities teams (Men and Women) for participation in All India Inter-University Championships. Sports Authority of India has set up Khelo India Centres in Sports disciplines Hockey and Handball and Khelo India Academies in Sports disciplines Fencing and Archery in the University Campus.
Every year, the University organizes Annual Sports Distribution Function in which about 250 sportspersons (International / Khelo India / Inter-University levels) are awarded with cash prizes worth about Rs. 2.00 crore. By following this tradition, the University is organizing its 52nd Annual Sports cash award function for outstanding athletes & trophies to Overall best performing Colleges on 20th September, 2022 (Tuesday).

VC Prof. Sandhu felicitated GNDU international players
Amritsar, 06 September, 2022 – Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar Shooters Mr. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Ms. Ashi Chocksey who participated in Tokyo Olympics 2020 felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu of Guru Nanak Dev University.

Mr. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar have won Gold medal in World Cup Shooting Championship held at Korea in July 2022 and Ms. Ashi Chockseywon Gold medal in World Cup Shooting Championship held at Germany in June 2022 and Silver medal in World Cup Shooting Championship held at Korea in July 2022.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the achievement by the University Shooters make our University a pride in the field of Shooting across the globe. He also wishes them for their future endeavours. He further said the University is going to organizes its Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function in the coming days in which all the University position holders will be awarded with cash prizes of about Rs. 2.00 crore.

Prof. Sarbjot Singh Behl, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Hardeep Singh, OSD, Dr.Karanjeet Singh Kahlon, Registrar, Dr. Anish Dua, Dean Student’s Welfare, Dr. Amandeep Singh. Dr. Kanwar Mandeep Singh and Ms. Rajwinder Kaur, Shooting Coach were also present.
