Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belgaum is one of the oldest Indian Law Colleges and a premier institution of legal education of South India. It was established in the year 1939 by Karnatak Law Society, Belgaum as a part of its solemn resolve to impart legal education in this part of the country. The college is named after Raja Lakhamgouda Sirdesai, its benevolent mentor and donor and head of the er

stwhile princely State of Vantamuri. During the seven decades of its existence, good number of past students has earned reputation as lawyers and most of them have occupied the highest positions in the judiciary, legislature and executive. Many students have occupied higher positions in Governments, Defence, Public Ltd. Companies, political administration, various Banks in India and abroad. So also made names in the fields of sports, cinema, literature etc.Students of R.L.Law College, Hon’ble Justice late Shri E.S. Rajendra Babu have occupied the highest position in Indian Judiciary by becoming the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court of India. Former Chief Justices of Kerala High Court Hon’ble Justice Dr. V.S. Malimath and Hon’ble Justice Shri S.R. Bannurmath are the students of R.L.Law College. It has produced several justices of Karnataka High Court like Shri A.K. Lakshmeshwar, late Shri K.B. Hiremath, Shri M.M. Mirdhe, Shri A.R. Murgod, Shri Mohammed Anwar, Shri N. D.V. Bhat, Shri P. A. Kulkarni, Shri M. S. Nesaragi, late Shri G. N. Sabhahit and Shri A. Paschapure. The achievement of students of R.L.Law College is not only restricted to Karnataka High Court but has gone beyond the State. Former Justices of Bombay High Court Shri S. B. Bhasme, Shri N. Naik, Shri H. Suresh, Shri R. M. Khandeparkar and Shri A. P. Lavande are its proud alumni. Among the celebrated Constitutional Law lawyers we mention the name of our proud past student Shri K.K. Venugopal, designated Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of India. The contribution of Raja Lakhamgouda Law College to the field of politics is immense. Former Chief Ministers of Karnataka Shri S. R. Bommai and Shri J. H. Patel are the students of R. L. Law College. Law College has its share in the Union Ministry as well. Shri B. Shankaranand, Smt. Sarojini Mahishi and Shri R. D. Khalap have made the college proud. The past students have served as Ministers in various Departments of Karnataka State Government. Late Shri G. Shankar Rao, late Shri Haranahalli Ramaswamy, late Shri B. Basavalingappa, late Shri D. K. Naikar, Shri L. G. Havanur, Shri N. Sogi and late Shri A. Jakanur, all are our past students. Late Shri B. Banakar, former Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Shri Luizinho Faleiro, former Education Minister of Goa, late Shri A. Datar, former Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka are the proud past students of R. Law College has produced several Members of Parliament like Shri Ramachandra Reddy, Shri S. Sidnal, Shri A. Kotrashetty, Shri Patil Puttappa. Present M. P., Shri Suresh Angadi and Shri D. Chandregouda are also part of series in the success toasted by R. The contribution of R. Law College in the field of cinema and sports has been immense. National award winning Actor Shri S. Charu Hasan and National Athlete Shri Arjun Devaiah are the proud past students of R. It has produced Vice-Chancellor of various Universities. Late Shri S. Wadeyar, Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad and Dr. V. Coutinho, former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University are the past students of R. The students of R. Law College are working in various fields and taking its name to every nook and corner of the country. Adv. Fr. Johny Mathew, Member of Juvenile Justice Board, Bangalore, Shri Shrihari Kugaji, environmentalist & an Officer in Army, Shri Shrihari Patil, Lieutenant & Advocate Judge, Indian Navy and Shri Raju B. Harti, Winner of “JEEVAN RAKSHA PADAK” for saving the life of a girl from electrocution, are our proud past students. The students of Raja Lakhamgouda Law College claim a lion’s share in the University Ranks, both at 5 Years and 3 years law courses. The college has developed excellent infrastructure. It has spacious classrooms, well equipped computer labs., playground, gymnasium, library building, canteen, boys and girls hostels with medical facilities. etc. The college library has rich collection of books and journals for learning and research. It has a collection of more than 30,000 books. The college subscribes several journals, newspapers and periodicals relating to the profession, general knowledge and general reading. To a greater extent the library work has been computerised. There is also a facility in the form of digital library available at the computer laboratory where students can have access to all books, reports of Law Commissions, Bare Acts etc., up-do-date. They can access these off-line and also on-line through internet facility. In consonance with the emerging trends and growing demands of 21st century, the college has started the 5 year Law Courses (B. A., LL. and B. B.), well incorporating the recent socio-legal aspects in the curriculum. It is well equipped with latest technology service of internet, WI-FI and CCTV. The college has an excellent and competent staff producing large number of University Rank holders, University Blues etc. The students have won several championships in sports, debates, elocution etc. The students have been participating in several National and International Level Moot Court Competitions, making the college proud. Raja Lakhamgouda Law College has been conducting several State and National Level Seminars. In the past, it has conducted seminars on Right to Information, Judicial Activism, Gender Justice, Protection of Woman against Domestic Violence etc. Raja Lakhamgouda Law College has also been conducting Shri M. Nambyar Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition every year. Teams from all over India have been enthusiastically participating in this competition.

The college proudly celebrated Human Rights Day, reaffirming our commitment to dignity, equality, and justice for all. As part of the Human Rights Week, students and faculty came together to reflect on the values that form the foundation of a just society.

The event featured inspiring discussions on the 2025 theme of Human Rights, followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the Symposium on Cyber Laws, the Ted Talk Competition “The Most Important Human Right for Me”, and the Calendar & Poster Making Competition on Human Rights.
Our talented students showcased remarkable insight, creativity, and awareness through their participation.

A special appreciation to all participants, prize winners, staff, and student volunteers who made the celebration meaningful and impactful.

“A step towards shaping tomorrow’s educators”

The IQAC and Student Bar Association of KLS Raja Lakhamgouda Law College successfully concluded the Student Faculty Programme, held from 17th to 22nd November 2025. Over the course of six enriching days, selected student faculty members stepped into the role of teachers – delivering subject classes with confidence, dedication, and remarkable enthusiasm. This platform gave our students the opportunity to experience the noble responsibility of teaching and to explore their potential as future educators.
The programme ended on a joyful note with students capturing memorable photographs and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the professors who guided and mentored them throughout the journey.

The IQAC, KLS Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belagavi successfully organised a Symposium on Cyber Laws on 11th October 2025.
